Featured Replies

Thanks for the reply pete I will get a thread repair kit ordered.

Ps: the window motor you fixed last year for me on the same car is still going strong !

Same on my Octavia but I just bought a second hand knuckle for £15-00 on ebay. If your getting a second hand one on the Octavia some have three and others have four bearing bolts. Not sure on fabia.

Fabia still using older "press in" wheel bearing assemblies and not "bolt on wheel bearing assembles" - so not an issue for that exact detail.

Wasn't sure re MK2. My sons MK1 is press in. Changed one a while back and it was a nigtmare to get out. Went bang and finally came loose. Thought I had broken something

I've only done a front wheel bearing on a 2015 Polo 1.2TSI 110PS at around 35,000miles and 8 years old - not good, I think that it was moisture that had got into one side - off side bearing, I just replaced both sides using a cheap China made(probably) kit, but bought Sealey forcing pins - just in case the China made cheapie ones failed. A bit of a worrying job to do, but it worked out fine. On the other hand, I have a "bolt on" front wheel bearing assembly waiting to get fitted to my 2011 Audi S4 - and that car has aluminium knuckles/uprights/hub carriers - so probably a lot more than just unbolting involved there, I must get brave!

I would start spraying with penetrating oil now and keep doing it every few days. Saying that I changed the clutch on my sons fabia and all the bolts for the gearbox came out no problem at all apart from one which I reckon was cross threaded from new. Was a bit worried as alloy and steel don't mix over time. Managed to clean it up with a tap and got it torqued up again.
