Octavia RS strange noises

Featured Replies

Hello everyone,

I have a problem with my Octavia RS making noises while driving. Sometimes they're barely audible or inaudible, and often they're very annoying.

As you can hear in the video, it's sometimes slow and sometimes a bit faster. It gets louder in curves, but it feels slower. I'm also now experiencing frequent vibrations in the accelerator pedal and footrest.

The mechanic can't detect anything wrong with the wheels at first glance. It feels like it's coming from the front right, and it's also very loud when making left turns.

I've attached a video. Does anyone recognize this or know what it could be?

I'm thinking wheel bearings.

I had a similar whomp whomp whomp which varied on speed and cornering in a previous car (Audi TT)

I'd suggest starting there.

First thing to do is swap your wheels front to back to rule out any wheel imbalance or tyre issue. If the noise moves to the back of the car you know it's wheel related.

Yes good point, could be misshaped tyre(s)

As above swap front and rear tyres..... I had similar a few years ago with a mk1 Fabia vRS and what i thought was a wheel bearing turned out to be a tyre as the sound moved when the front and rear tyres were switched.

I changed the tires today. It looks like the vibration in the front has subsided.

But the noise is still there. And the more I drive, the louder and more intense it gets.

Could this be the wheel bearing, which deteriorates over time as it heats up?

Sounds like bearings to me. It is a new(er) car, but it's not out of the question. I've just been told my control arm rear bushes are knackered and that's on a 2020 with 40k on it.
