Damaged wiring on driver side door

Featured Replies

Hello Everyone,

My significant others 2014 Fabia developed a faulty with the window switch on the driver side today, it looks like the wiring just adjacent to the connection from the door to the car is damaged and at least three wires severed. From looking at this forum and some googling this sounds like a well known problem.

I'm reasonably confident we can repair ourselves (reminds me of my old Clio) but it has been a while, can anyone who's done this work before confirm the current rating in need for the wiring I'm going to have to splice in after I remove the damage?

Hoping I don't open a can of worms and find even more damaged wiring when I go poking.

you've got two real options a repair kit were you get the plug and wiring or a new wiring loom from skoda

i went for new wiring loom on both doors as mine had been repaired before two to three times

to repair the wiring with the repair kit you solar the new wiring to the old and heat shrink the repair and test

All of the thinner wires are 0.5mm sq. cross sectional area or less. The largest pair are 1.5mm sq. I think.

Complete removal of door is surprisingly easy to greatly improve access. Needs an assistant to help lifting off and refitting though.

Having said all that, the wiring between window switch and window motor probably goes direct, within the main bit of the door loom, rather than going to the 28-way connector at A-pillar.

What colours are the broken wires? Photo?

I am aware this post is not new, but I am about to embark on the same journey myself, with repairing both looms, I have all the parts even the new rubber conduit from the body to the door the one that alleviates the cable fatigue problem, but I am unable to find wiring diagrams for the big connector that connects the door electrics to the body of the car, I want to add more cables to retrofit the car with electric side view mirror, do any of you guys know or have the wiring diagram? is adding these cables worth it? as I am aware the main loom behind the dashboard might not have all the cables to connect it all.

Use phone camera to get a photo of the male half of the connector on A-pillar.

Compare number of pins fitted, to number of contacts with wires in the door loom female connector.

If there are the same number, there will be no point in adding wires to the door loom.

That's actually a good point, painfully obvious lol, I will thanks )
