Fuel range glitch? ⛽️

Featured Replies

I thought I filled up at the garage yesterday but was surprised when I got back into the car and only saw 580km range on the dash. I thought ok that the pump must have auto shut off early so I did my drive for 40 mins outs and back. On the way back I noticed that the range had increased to 620km. Until then a full tank max range was 730km. I will test it again but I’m interested to know if anyone else has noticed this? Apart from that nice update in the Skoda app 7 day challenge counter 👌🏻

I'm overseas so not sure, but I believe it has been a bit warm in the UK lately???? If so the density of the fuel is affected - you may be getting normal litres/volume, but the fuel density is less and consequently it weighs less. This is probably affecting the indicated range depending on how the range is calculated from the tank contents. I'm in Australia and my range can vary post fill up by 50km depending on temperature. Best to fill up in the early morning as the fuel in the petrol station tanks should be cooler and denser.

Thanks for sharing your experience and yes this could be an explanation. I’m in France and it has been very hot as well but not too much when I last filled up around 10:00 am. I will monitor it going forward.

I filled mine up with Momentum 99 in Minehead on June 8th and I was very disappointed with the expected range on that, it was showing 340 miles, and it didn't last that at all despite cruising up the A303 & M3 at around 75 where it was clear and whilst it did go up to 370 for a while, it did seem to drop away very quickly even though most of my driving that week back at home was on dual carriageways and faster A roads.

I get better consumption with standard 95 & a shot of EcoMax in the tank.

Lowest I have listed in the Skoda app is 5.7 l/100 on a motorway drive just under 3 hrs. Seems better than listed but higher when inner city. I often leave is in D mode and stick to the speed limit without too much crazy acceleration. Just relaxed mode.

The fuel tank range at it,s highest is assuming the car being driven at it,s most efficient.

When it shows the range when the reserve light comes on that is according to how much fuel is being consumed at that time.

I also often find that the range is lower when the tank is full. A few kilometres later, driving normally, I sometimes gain up to 100/150 km of range.

Yes, the range is calculated on the last few miles/journeys; if they are short then consumption will typically be high, so lower range.

The most extreme example I have had is filling up before a long journey; 200 miles in to it the range was showing higher than just after I filled up!
