HELP!!!!! Starting issues. 2015 mk3 estate 1.2 tsi dsg auto petrol.

Hi all, wondering if one of you clever clogs can help.

Not sure if things are linked in anyway but will just give you what i have.

5 months ago heard a warning deep and an error came up on dash, went away so quickly i could never read it, would happen now and again sometimes not for weeks!

Finally saw it and was the "Error workshop! Only leave vehicle in P position" error. Not seen this error for a good few weeks now.

Took the car in for a full service (not a skoda dealership) called them and they were about 3/4 way through service and they asked if i had ever had issues starting it. Never had an issue always started on the button. Collected car and was fine, 3 days later wouldn't start again. Eventually started it. Thought it might be the starter solenoid, tapped it with a hammer. Car started. (This could be a total coincidence).

Was running fine and so i decided to fit a new starter/solenoid and battery and replaced the signal wire to the solenoid. Started first time no issues. Assumed was the solenoid and all fixed.

Just happened again, Any clues? Thanks

Could be a coroded earth. Might be worth getting it scanned for fault codes to see if there are any stored. It could also be a relay thats failing or fuses that are loose or coroded

Alasdair

I am amazed you were not told how much they wanted to rectify the fault. The well known by even the most incompetent of workshop fitter or tech.

There is the cheap fix and the not cheap.

& The DQ200 different from DQ250 or DQ381,s.

The avi download doesn't open for me.

Always allow that there could be two or more issues contributing to one or more problems, hopefully the issues might be related and solving one solves both (or more) but that can't always be relied on.

It shouldn’t be possible to start a DSG car with the head selector out of park or without pressing the foot brake. So if either of those two sensors are misbehaving that might be the cause. The error nessage suggests gear selector position sensor maybe. A VCDS or VagCom code read should list the fault codes.

It is heartening to hear that in the high tech world we now live in a well aimed Ball Pien hammer is still an effective tool!👍

It is possible to start a DQ 200 DSG in P or N. But only in N if the ambient temperature is no lower than minus 8 degrees celcius. (Foot on Brake pedal. Or hand. Or hand control for brakes if disabled maybe. ). PS. The way to find out if you can stop and switch off and leave in N ,use the parking brake. Then restart in N is just try it. It is what you might do while serving a car..
