engine light on

2008 skoda octavia mk2, 1.9BLS engine

Hi there, I have faced these errors for a couple of months now:

When it's hot, the car gets an engine light, with the glow plug light blinking and ESP/TCR light on. The car does not go past 3k rpm and also shakes a lot at starts and stops.

i have 2 vcds auto scans that show errors related to the engine and ABS module, I can't seem to find any help..

Not sure but in two cases voltage is too low. Whats the condition of your battery? A failing one or low voltage can cause random probems.

the battery has been replaced, when on the multimeter shows 14 ish volts, so i don't think it's the problem

If it does it when hot it may be a bad earth or coroded connector. As it gets hot things expand and can cause bad connections. Check for damaged wiring as well. Might be worth checking the strip fuses in front of battery as well. They are prone to cracking but almost impossible to see. As it heats up the crack opens and breaks circuit.

Have had this a few times in my Octavia and my sons Fabia. In my case it was ABS fault.

Sounds as though its going into limp mode.

Soo, after a few tests:

The error always disappears when I unplug the MAF sensor, BUT, the sensor is good as far as I am concerned, I even bought another and it's the same thing. as for the harness, it had a tiny 1 mm spot with no isolation on one wire; the others are fine

It seems that I won't get a good sleep yet.

Not sure if it will work but might be worth changing ECU relay/fuse. If its failing it would explain why it happens when hot. Think its in the unit near battery but not exactly sure which one it is.
