Turbo Rebuild

Featured Replies

Hi guys,

I’ve got a 2003 Skoda Octavia MK1 with the 1.8T AUM engine (150hp), currently sitting at around 260,000 km.

I’m wondering when it’s a good time to rebuild the turbo. I haven’t noticed any whining noises or weird sounds, and I haven’t checked for shaft play yet. Just curious if it’s better to do a rebuild preventively or wait until there are clear signs of failure.

Also:

  • Is the stock turbo a K03 or K03s on this engine?

  • Any good guides or DIY walkthroughs you’d recommend for rebuilding?

Would appreciate any advice or input from those who’ve done it before.

Thanks in advance!

Cheers,

Not sure what turbo is fitted but personally I would leave it if its working properly. You could source a second hand one and rebuild it as a quick replacement if yours fails. I did rebuild one from a volvo 940 years ago as the fins had gone and it was burning oil but found the simplest option was to buy a new core etc
