Electric Window Switches

Featured Replies

Hello. I've been lurking for a while quietly enjoying my 2017 L&K 220 but now have an issue. I decided to get a full valet done as the light beige interior is starting to look a bit grubby. I used a local mobile valeting service that did a fantastic job, but....

The day after, driving along and the passenger window suddenly lowered itself and wouldn't go back up. All the others worked and after a few minutes the passenger window would go up. Now the driver's window won't do anything at all.

I'm wondering if anything the valeter used could have got into the switch pack. I've given it a couple of days to dry out but still nothing. I haven't contacted the valet company yet and am wondering if it's worth it given it doesn't seem an expensive part to simply replace as I suspect 'proving' the valeter was at fault will be almost impossible.

Anyone have any views?

First plug in OBDEleven or VCDS and see if any errors come up.

The window switch panel can b replaced, if necessary, assuming that is the problem.

Could be coincident, could be something he did. Plenty of Detailers out there seem to use all sorts of stuff that they shouldn’t. I say that as International Detailing Association Certified and Validated. Possible for this is generous use of steam which can introduce moisture into the electrical components. It can be used but not anywhere near switchgear. You could contact them and ask what products and techniques were used in the interior but don’t mention the windows as it cues them up to deny anything flatly. Otherwise, I’d just write it off and make sure you look at IDA or pro-valets website for qualified guys next time 👍🏼

Either way, as JR RS said, it can be swapped out so solvable.

I've recently had this happen on 2 occasions randomly while driving. The same issue with the window going down and after 30 seconds or so I was able to pull it up again from the drivers panel. I located that the window switch was actually stuck in a semi down position and it needed a forceful 'tug' to it's normal seated position where it can freely activate up and down. I think I had knocked it when sticking the car seat in or the kid had kicked it. Has not occurred since.

Thanks for the comments. It's started working again so whatever had got in the switch seems to have sorted itself out. Ho hum.

If you get stuck with the windows down and not responding to the switch you could try holding down the "Lock" section of the fob to close all windows. 😉
