Trailer Assist

Does anyone know if Trailer Assist is available as an option on a new Karoq ?

If you're buying new go for the factory fit towbar. I've just returned a loan Kodiaq with it and it's great. The 13 pin socket is on the side of the towhook and simple to reach, unlike aftermarket scrabbling around under the bumper. The same goes for the overrun cable, it clips onto a metal loop on the towball. Brilliant bit of kit and trailer assist will be built in.

If ordering new it comes with the same towbar system as a Kodiaq and will have trailer assist as part of the package.

However having an aftermarket towbar on a used Karoq can be more problematic as it has been with many VAG cars.

Some cars cannot have a towbar fitted full stop. They're identified by not having a Train Weight Limit on their VIN plate and any towbar fitter will refuse to fit one as it wouldn't be legal. Other cars have their software locked up and aftermarket fitters can't download the relevant changes, they're harder to spot and generally you'd need a Skoda dealer to check it out for you.

I may be wrong but just specifying towbar preparation on a new car doesn't get you trailer assist, it just gets any changes made that are necessary to accomodate towing should you wish to have a towbar fitted later. That later fitting would then include trailer assist software being downloaded.

With regard to get aftermarket towbars and even Skoda Factory towbar fitted to an existing car with the CANBUS electrics correctly coded; up to MY23 seems to be OK, MY 24 cars seems to have issues regarding coding and MY 25 definitely have issues. For both these years it seems the only option currently is for the towbar to have been fitted by the factory during the build.

On a separate point I'm now curious about Trailer Assist. I had the Skoda Factory electric swivelling towbar fitted to my 73 plate Karoq last year, it took 10 days though to get the coding from the factory, but once coded all has been fine. It never occurred to me that the coding might include Trailer Assist, so I've never looked to see if its set up or configured, so I shall have to have to look tomorrow.

I had the Skoda electric swivelling towbar retro-

fitted to our 2018 SeL by the Skoda dealer soon after buying the car. The electrics work as they should.

What is Trailer Assist and what does it do? How do I check whether I have it?

Back in 2018 when I was looking to change cars I considered a Kia Niro. I did not buy one because it was not Type Approved for towing. I just needed to tow a small trailer, nothing large like a caravan. I was told that I could have a towbar fitted but I was not allowed to tow with it. There would be no problem, however, using it for a bike rack

In the Latest UK Kodiak Brochure it lists as options:

Electric tow bar with adaptor.

Electric tow bar with adaptor and trailer assist.
Only available in combination with Driving Assistance Plus Package.

But the UK Karoq Karoq doesn't mention it however the latest Karoq owners manual explains how to use it but you must have park assist ,I was trying to find out if anyone knew if it was available as an option on UK vehicles ?

Trailer assist helps when you reverse with the trailer.
