Weird (turbo?) noise

Featured Replies

Hi!

I bought this Skoda a week ago, and after a 2001 Toyota 2.0d4d the engine sound is so different for me (maybe just unusual). Around 90 km/h it has this whistling (?) sound. No error codes, normal oil and water temp, and good fuel consumption (4.8l/100km or 49MPG). Is this engine just has this kind of sound or I need to worry?

I can reproduce this sound in 5th and 4th gear also, no difference in the sound, but after releasing the gas, it immediately disappears (so no wheel bearing maybe)

Thanks!

I have the same engine, no noise like yours.

@krdsrl Welcome,

i read what car you used to have, but had to go to your profileto see what car you have now and are asking about.

Best post what car / engine it is. 1.6 TDI CR 2015.

Can the noise be generated when stationery, ie just revving the engine to similar rpm or do you have be moving to recreate it?

I would be more likely to associate this kind of noise with a transmission fault ( bearing?)

I can hear some kind of noise in stationary as well, but it’s far more louder while driving.

But shouldn’t it be change frequency on higher RPM if it was the transmission?

It sound the same even on 1500RPM in 5th, and on 2500RPM in 4th.

It’s a manual 5 gear btw.

Had similar on my old octavia. Whistle sound almost like a siren in the distance. Eventually started going into limp mode but no EML on . In my case it was a sticking actuator on turbo causing overboost. Lubricated it with penatrating oil and maanually actavated for ages until it was smooth plus arms hurt. Seemed to cure the problem. I have read that sticking turbo veins can cause similar problems.
