Fabia stopped and no electrics, clutch pedal stays down

Featured Replies

Any help would be appreciated

Hi, welcome.

This is too little information (for me at least) what on the car has stopped - everything, engine, etc., etc..

No electric to what, the whole car, ignition, etc., etc..

You could start with the clutch pedal or at the 12v battery and it's connections and go from there, or ignition switch.

The computers rule the roost, if one bit's faulty they might not let you operate the rest, or the clutch might be mechanical, how's the brake fluid level.

Thanks for replying

Wife's car and just driven from Wales to Devon in average thirty degrees and stop start journey down the M5,cars broken down everywhere (so thought it might be heat related)

Said car stalls and no electrics at all.

Went to depress clutch to do ignition process and the pedal was on the floor, poked it back up with her foot and everything working as normal.

Reservoir is full.

Still starting as normal however she thinks today that clutch pedal seems less resistant as it usually does.

Clutch may well be pure coincindence. Sounds like either the master or slave cylinder is either leaking or allowing fluid past the seals. Check for fluid around pedals and also under car. My octavia used to do that. Clutch would hit floor and not return. Flicked it up with my foot and it would be fine for a while. It was the master that had started leaking. Fluid was on the undertray and leaked out when it got winched onto recovery. As for electrics it may need scanned to see if it pings anything up.

Thanks for that I will look at the garage floor tomorrow morning as it will have been parked up overnight and look for any dampness any where

Meant to add that the slave on my sons MK1 is external but it can leak inside the bell housing. Check the bottom of Gbox for dampness as well. On his the brake fluid reservoir is also the clutch. Check the level isn't dropping.

Fabia in garage for MOT this morning and spoke to mechanic about said problem. Apparently this can be a problem for Skoda and v.w and will only get worse.

The problem seems to be master/slave

cylinder and will need replacing so sorting that out next. The only temporary fix is when the clutch pedal stays on the floor is too flick it up with your foot and proceed as normal.

Probably no good if you're wearing steel toe cap boots!

I ran mine for a while as it only went to floor randomly until one day went to floor and stayed there. Luckily at time knew a recovery friend who took us home. I was lucky as it failed when I was dropping my son to school and was in a bus stop. Could have gone I suppose at any time. I would get it looked at sooner than later. Keep an eye on the brake/clutch fluid. Think I got a sachs master cylinder through amazon for about £40
