re:eibach coilovers octy vrs

Featured Replies

Just a quickie has anyone put eibach coil-overs on a octy vrs 03 as we've just fitted some to our demo car and have some issues, just wondered if anyone else has fitted them and what results they had (ride quality etc).

Whats the issue?

Eibach tell you they are not for the Octy vRS, as wrong poundage settings.

I tried to get them for my Octy vRS, also Koni are wrong.

The only ones that seem to fit properly are KW'3s.

Think AntvRS has them fitted to his.

The issue is that the car is unstable and very bouncy at speed, but ok at town speeds.Spoke to eibach uk today and they said that there kit dosent fit the vrs but the kits on the car,im an eibach dealer and most disapointed that they where sold to me incorrectly,i just wondered if the back end of the vrs is heavier than the normal 1.8t model as the front set-up is the same as the leon cupra r which should mean its ok,i've been in the motor industry all my life and never had this issue with another motor on coil-overs, tbh im bemused but the kit will be removed in the next couple of days, just thought i would post on here in case anyone else had issues or had them fitted to there cars.

It will fit the vRS, but that doesnt mean its suitable. If the poundage of the springs are wrong then it will cause a bumpy ride. Front set may not be right if its for a Leon R for example, the front axle weight is heavier on the R as it doesnt use the same engine/gearbox as the vRS but it will physically fit.

ok i know the front end of cupra r is heavier but only by 40kgs this car is bouncy like there is no or very little damping if the spring rate was too hard then the car would be crashy that if the damping is the same which it should be as the front legs have the same p/n the rears i believe are the same as the golf estate which makes sense if you think about it. Im just bemused as the spec of the kit seems right but the on road performance is s**te. I guess i'll have to get h+r as fitted to another one of my motors.

I had Eibach TDi Springs fitted to my vRS Fabia (before Eibach did vRS specific springs) and the ride was awfull. Swapped them for the correct ones and the difference was amazing (same dampers for both).

I have them on mine! it is true at high speeds, that very bumpy roads do cause a harsh and uncofortable ride. I had put it down to a very strong damper! However all being said and done, the standard set up caused me some worrying times! I can now push the car far harder and faster into corners with the back end out ans stamp on the power to get it round! I would be in the hedge with the standard setup. So you makes a choice - comfort or safety. Best mod i ever did! was the last, should have been the first.

The information posted in this thread is rather worrying as I'm currently looking for a coilover setup for my car. There's not many options available as it is and from what is posted here the weight difference on the front axle between a standard 4x4 and mine due to the modifications made could have a significant effect.

Are the dampers adjustable rate? This sounds like the problem a mate of mine had years ago with an Escort, when he put Spax adjustables on it and clicked them up to maximum, so that the damper was limiting the wheel movement, and the body was heaving more than it should have been.

KW3s Eddy - Stuart has them on his and is very happy with them. Drop him a PM, although he is in Europe at the mo....

I hear good reports on the KW V3's. However my concern is regarding spring rates as my front axle weight will be different to a standard 4x4 due to the gearbox, flywheel, internals, turbo, FMIC etc...

Does anyone know how I can measure the front axle weight?

Apart from the obvious? No.

OK, stating the obvious then, find a motorsport place and get the corner weights measured - also, not sure if a public weighbridge will do corner/axle weights or just all in weight. If they only do totals, get the front weighed, get the car weighed and get the rear weighed, will probably be about £50 to do as you will have 3 weighings.

cant believe your happy with them mate, they bounce really badly even effecting vision its that bad,the worst coil-over set-up i've ever expierenced and i've had a few cars with them makes include weitec/h+r/gaz/koni's and have driven lots of cars with other makes and never had the issues i've had with these, eibach have said that there aware of a problem with this kit on the vrs models,i trust thats what you drive, the damping is not to harse its the spring rates that are wrong thay only list the kit for the non vrs models but know one can tell me what the difference is?Anyway h+r are gonna be fitted once i get my money back from eibach as they list the correct kit for the car and i've been in another octy with this kit and its subline.Still puzzled though as to why eibach say that the kit definately dosent fit the vrs models!

non-vRS kit won't fit because it won't have the ARB mounting points on the struts.

The KWs do, they have the mounts for both ARB locations on them :D

ok thats true but this kit does have the anti roll bar mounts!

Taken from Jabba's website! If there was a problem i am sure that they would not be fitting them?

ok an update on the eibachs the rear is the problem the springs are not high enough poundage so they are no good on the vrs or rs in europe and they are not tuv approved for those cars hence why they didnt work well on my car!

(i would think that jabba change the poundage of the rear springs)

anyway if your happy with the car then i would'nt worry....................

Just out of interest, i will ask Jabba. And see what they say.
