Best colour to hide scratches?

Featured Replies

Hi guys, I'm hopefully getting another vRS to go with the wife's Corrida Red Fab.

Just wondering what colour will hide the scratches best? Absolutely hate the fine laquer scratches/swirl marks which you see in the sun. Scratch X doesn't seem to work, either :(

I'm thinking that Silver will be about the best??

Oh, and what's magic about Black Magic? Never seen one in the flesh? Are there gold flecks in the paint?

Cheers

Silver seems to be the best, although I think it's only really black where they stand out.

Oh, and it does have kind of flecks in it, but I couldn't really see any magic properties

I understand that a good car-washing technique should stop you getting these scratches in the first place, and leave you a free choice of colour.

Try some searches on here for the "2 bucket washing" method, or visit http://www.polishedbliss.co.uk/ and http://www.detailingworld.co.uk/

Just used Scratch-X at the weekend. It seemed to remove most scratches but not all.

Black Magic paint has mica (blue & gold flakes) in paint, making it pearlescent effect. You can really see the gold in sunshine like today.

Red and black are the worst, silver is much better at hiding marks. Silver also will not fade.

Cheers - already knew about that. Still not convinced that the two bucket washing technique stops you getting all the scratches - and I am very careful to power wash the car before sponging it off...

How bad is black? Really fancy it - makes the car look a completely different shape IMHO

Mine is silver and the rear bumper is scratched to hell - the plants on my parents drive make a good job at that! but you really cannot see there is anything wrong unless you get really close and have a good look.

ive owned my black vrs for about 5 months know ive travelled 6k in it, and i have to say the paint is **** i regularly clean my car and wax it each week! every time i clean it i find new chips etc..

my 15 year golf has less stone chips than my furby

however when you give it a good clean it does looking lovely in the sun!

im tempted to trade mine in for a silver one, its so depressing cleaning your car and seeing new chips every bloody time!

Gold!

it's the way forward (shame they stopped doing it in 2002 and wasn't available for the Vrs!)

Totally agree. I have a red vrs and have exactly the same problem. I've given up caring now, as long as the car is reliable that's all that really matters. It seems the only way to get a car with decent paint is to buy an old car with oil-based paint.
