I need to know the physical size type of fuse 40 in the internal fuse box. I cannot presently get to the fuse box to find out myself (until the tow bar guy gives me a demo as to how to do it!) but I would like to be prepared beforehand.

The idea is to fit a piggy back fuse holder in fuse 40. (There will be no current overrunning)

You could always just buy a set of different sizes. Amazon have them for around a fiver.
