Misfire at 29-32 mph in 4th gear

Did find 05E 906 517 B on LLL parts but nothing for 05E906517A Its for a tiguan. Just wondering if someone has replaced it with a different part previously. May have to go to Skoda with vin etc and ask them.

Hope it stays that way.

  • Dont think there should be any oil on sparkplugs at all. Could be a valve stem seal thats worn or bad piston rings. Try a compression test Alasdair

  • Cylinder On Demand - when the ACT kicks in/out and switches the engine between a 2 cylinder one and a 4 cylinder one.

  • Sorry no idea what it would cost. I do all my own mechanics so a bit out of touch re costs but if its a valve stem seal then I assume labour charge will be more than parts. If its a bad piston ring th

Does a disappearing engine management light mean whatever the issue was has corrected itself ?

I was always under the impression light was there till it was cleared manually

I'd payed £115 for the charcoal box last night as I thought it was likely to be that due to me regularly overfilling 🙄

Probably will still get it changed though

Engines still misfiring in 2 cylinder mode !

Think some EML lights have to be reset depending on the severity of fault and others will reset themselves once car is stopped and started. If its gone out thats a bonus. Hope it stays off. As for the misfire reckon it might need a specialist to diagnose it if there are no fault codes stored related to it. I assume you have swapped coil packs etc to see if fault moves from cylinder to cylinder. It could be a wiring issue?

Do all garages now just rely on what the diagnostics say ?

Had car in at different VAG specialist yesterday for same issue , car still vibrating in 2 cylinder mode, got a call to be told no misfire codes showing.

So I asked if anyone had actually driven it to be told they were just reading the report they'd been given

So I asked if someone could actually drive it to acknowledge the issue, feel like banging my head against a wall

A lot of garages do rely on diagnostics. My old one (sadly retired) took cars out for a spin as well as scanning. He always said theres still a lot of mechanical bits on a car that scanners cant check plus you get a better idea of what might be wrong especially if its a sporadic fault with no codes. Hope they send a decent mechanic out with it.

Sadly it seems most dealers and large independents only employ keyboard technicians not mechanics who actually understand the oily bits of cars.

I used to go out with mechanic at garage to show them the problem. Once a decent mechanic with loads of experience gets the problem its a lot easier to explain to them whats happening plus easier for them to diagnose. Hopefully they will get to the bottom of it for you.

Changed spark plugs today no oil on any of them , slight improvement with vibration but still an issue in 2 cylinder mode.

Thinking I might if its possible and not likely to cause other issues to have the act disabled

Is this possible and advisable to do ?
