What is this part and where can I get one? Gear linkage issue on Fabia 1.4 TDI...

Featured Replies

Hi forum. Long time no see, because mostly, my car has been working. However...

We are no longer able to put the car into gear and I think I've worked out why. This arm which sits on top of the gearbox and turns the knurled rod that changes the gears still turns, but it no longer turns the rod. It appears that the teeth on the arm have been stripped. I think the arm may have been loose which led to this.

I've searched by part number, which appears to be 600 711051, but can only find whole gearboxes for sale, and my usual local scrapyard now no longer keeps cars this old, which is annoying, especially when there are so many mk1 Fabias still on the roads.

What would you call this and where would you find one?

6Q0711051, not 600...

Any scrapyard should have one in usable condition, I would think.

Reckon its probably 6Q0711051. Have mistaken the 0 for a Q before on parts. I think its Fabia Mk1 but also vw polo and perhaps seat ibiza if your looking at scrapyards

Thanks guys, I reckon it is a Q which will be helpful if I end up having to order one from a Skoda dealer. Fingers crossed for scrapyards, though, I'll start phoning in the morning...

There were two hits on fleabay just now for £11.99 - https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=6Q0711051&_sacat=0

Or take a look at skoda-parts.com in Czech; great stock and excellent service - https://www.skoda-parts.com/spare-parts/6Q0711051.html

Neither of the hits is relevant, sadly (not even sure why they appear) but thanks for the link to the Czech site, I'll check that out if I can't get one from a scrapyard today.

Just spoke to a Skoda dealer who says the part has been superseded by another part that will fit the same cars - 6R0711046 E.

Apparently this is the equivalent part from Fabia 2007-2015, also some VWs, Seats, etc.

6R0711046E does indeed fit and work.

£90 from the Skoda dealers, because I couldn't find a local scrapyard that had one that they were willing to sell separately from the gearbox.

I highly recommend measuring the exposed thread on the end of the cable before removing the old one. I did so with calipers, which meant no adjustment was necessary after installing the new one.
