ìnfotainment brick after bad update

Featured Replies

i just try to upgrade my firmware to 1941. I perfectly follow the tutorial, engine off as it was advised. I was running the update from 10 minutes and suddenly the warning for the low battery appears on the screen. And then the power went off and stop suddenly the update. The update was at stage 2, updating the CPU...

After restarting the engine and repowering the battery i try to restart the infotainment but nothing happens, i just have a black screen.

I probably brick the infotainment so it's a bad news because it should be quite expensive to change or repair it but if somebody has an eventuel advice to try to fix it by myself it would be nice. thanks.

Hello @lamiricore ,

I'm so sorry to hear that you soft bricked the MIB3 unit.
Every update must be "secured" with an external +12V power supply OR engine running.
The only option left for you is to re-write the EEPROM memory with a CH341 programmer.

Where are you located? Maybe you can find someone nearby.

Good luck

Thanks @djmartzian for your answer. Unfortunately The eeprom memory rewrite option seems to be out of my range so i prefer find someone that can do that. I'm located in France next to Rennes so maybe someone has a contact to give me ?

Hello. Update with the engine running. No need to open or close anything. Just plug in the external drive and update. I didn't even turn off the air conditioning, and everything worked perfectly after the update. Have a nice day.

I already try this but the screen is black and nothing happens when i plug the drive

Have you tried to disconnect the battery for couple of hours?

If the update process is interrupted due to a power outage, specialist intervention is required via dealer service.

Well, can't those hidden Boot settings be launched too? By holding both buttons on the screen for a long time.

i try to hold the menu button but the engineering menu is not appearing

Nothing will work without a service center. So that you don't have to replace the entire display. Tell them what you did so they can reinstall the entire system. You may have to pay, but not as much as for the display. If the dealer has normal guys, then maybe you won't even have to pay anything, just for diagnostics. Good luck!
