2 ltr TSI 190, any problems

Featured Replies

Hi everyone.

I'm thinking of buying a mk3 sportsline plus on a 2021 plate 2ltr TSI 190.

I've read that this engine could be a problem with, using oil, timing chains, plus other things.

Could you please advise me if these stories are true, or old wifes tales.

At the moment I've got a mk2 2.0 ltr diesel 140,on 2011 plate.

The newer 2.0 litre engine you are referring to is generally a great engine, the one with the problems you describe refer to the older 1.8 petrol engine.

I have the EA888 Gen 3b 2.0TSI on a 69 plate hatchback. I find the engine really good. responds well, quiet and shows no sign of being underpowered pulling around the Superb. I have only covered 35,000 miles but still found the engine trouble free.

Thanks for your advice, much appreciated.

Do you find your toppings up the oil level

Frequently?

Or you don't have any problems.

Hi @Car65 I only cover 5000 miles a year ( retired) and have never had to top up the oil between services

Hope this helps

272 with 50k. No oil top ups or chain issues.

Water pump leaking would be the main one.

The older gti and vrs units would have seen the most issues with chains.

Thank you very much, to get the thumbs up off owners is so reassuring.

Cheers.👍

Only 7000 miles on my 2.0TSi 190 Gen4 but no issues and no oil top up.

Really impressed with the refinement and economy on this engine.

Where did you read problems with the engine?

Hi in the press, and searching Google

👍

Is this DKZA engine? If so, it’s EA888 Gen3b which is part of the EA888 family which has been a stalwart of almost all VAG sub-brands for years. I wouldn’t think twice about it from everything that I’ve seen on here 👍🏼

Google DKZA engine and you get information. Google DKZA problems and you’ll get a list of issues just like any other engine code.

Car65 says he's looking at a 2021 Superb which was the change over year so it could be a DKZA EA888 Gen3b or DNNA EA888 Gen4.

Good shout. Mine is March 2021 and is Gen4. Either way - both decent engines.
