oil pressure switch failure?

Featured Replies

while driving yesterday the "low oil pressure - stop engine immediately" warning came on. Stopped and checked the oil level, found to be perfect, no obvious leaks. Started back up no warning. finished the journey to town without incident. On the way back had 2 more warnings. Same thing no obvious signs and then ran perfectly the rest of the way home. Tried today, same thing warnings at random intervals.

No obd code shown on diagnostic reader.

I suspect its the oil pressure switch failing - any other thoughts?

Anyone have the OEM number for the oil pressure switch?

2008 Fabia hatch 1.6 16v 77kw (105ps) BTS engine

Whereabouts on the engine is the pressure switch located ?

Any info much appreciated thanks

If I rember the part you need is a 06A99081T oil pressure switch which is around 20 30 pounds for a genuine part you might get one cheaper in a different make, not 100% sure on your car but mine was looking from the front of the car just where the exhaust shield goes then up the side it's fitted in the head, it has a 2 wire blaclk plastic connector it's hard to see but is there had to use a ring spanner on mine as a socket is not deep enough, a little tip put some rag under the switch as a little oil comes out when you remove it like i said not 100% sure with your model but worth a look

Unplug the single wire connection and see if there's oil inside the connector. That's a sure sign it has failed.

The part number you require depends on when your car was built. There was a change for BTS engines during Model Year 2009 (which a 2008 car may well be).

If you supply your reg or VIN, I can look up which suits yours. I suspect it will be 036919081D, but it would be good to be sure.

Yep, part number as in my previous post 036919081D, currently £22.10 + VAT at dealers.

24mm spanner to remove, I seem to remember.

Brilliant thanks again for that.

I will try autodoc but failing that its off to skoda 😁

Someone on here reckoned the Febi pattern parts are OK, should be able to find closer (in UK) than via autodoc.

Good to know, I will check it out. I was just looking into a second mortgage in case I had to go to Skoda 🤣

Before you start buying parts check the oil filter and housing, the oil can turn to sludge and cause low oil pressure. The oil pickup pipe can also get blocked with crud.

If it is the oil pressure switch euro carparts have them on offer for a grand sum of 1p!

Hi Steve,

thanks for that info. I managed to get a switch but as the car is in scandinavia and this model was never available here, Autodoc was the cheapest (£ 3.80). I changed the oil & filter at the same time just to be safe. There was no sign of any crud in the housing.

All tickety boo for now 😁
