New battery time?

Featured Replies

The more I think about it we was messing around with the USB socket / device on our way down to the Birmingham. I wanted to charge my phone so plugged in to charge and use AA, and then we decided to plug the AA Wirelss back in.... ACC was working fine all the way down, and it was parked up for hours before we saw the issue but who knows if that caused something ...

So maybe it is AA... or the USB socket itself that has something of an issue.

hmmm - food for thought

You said this without much context -> "My horn and ACC are also fine, when the car is turned off...."

This is what caused the direction of travel.

I see what you are saying about the AAWireless resolved it for you and we are just trying to understand how that might be an issue and nothing seems obvious.  Maybe its creating a temproary short and when you powercycle the car it resolves.

There is strong theory its the battery though.  I get my battery tester on Thursday and will see what the health of it is.

I could remove the the AAWireless but its too useful D

Sorry I was trying to be funny saying it caused no issues when off.

I'd be interested to know if the same random unplugging resolved someone else's issue as it really doesn't make much sense. Are you getting the random wiper sweeps when the stalk is in the off position?

Maybe it's something linked to the steering wheel controls and the clock spring.

Odd indeed

No issues with wipers...

Did you change the battery ?

I was ready to but when I checked with a multimeter it was fine.

Mutimeter only tells you part of the story. Need to check the state of charge & health to get the batterys health.

Your car might start up but that dosen't mean the battery is healthy and then you start to see issues like this is my understanding.

KINGBOLEN BM550 is the sort of thing you need to test properly.

@SkodaKing This is a place for help and advice. It doesn’t have to be accepted or agreed with, but that’s the price you pay for free help.

From a million posts on here:

Any electrical gremlins point to two things in the main:

  1. Battery on its way out the door

  2. Wheel speed sensor gone bad

If the battery is in the window then no other battery behaviour or experience has any bearing tbh. Too many people have had to change their battery at anywhere between 5 and 9 years for there to be any bearing; it’s dependent on driving behaviour, climate, quality of battery, how long it’s sat with previous owners/car lot etc etc etc.

First thing I’d do is change it rather than over-analyse it.

I don't understand this direction of conversation...What's all the chat about the car being off got to do with it?

Its this post ^^^

You steered the conversation about @dx4100 's AAWireless but you didn't specify whether it was because you were implying a battery drain or whether its presence is interfering with systems. People replied with posts how to understand if its the former (ie ruling it out) and then you start questioning the direction of the conversation.

Hope that clarifies.

Frick, shouldn't have bothered

So I tested my battery this morning and it told me what I thought I would see....

VOL = 12.39

SOC = 65%

SOH = 53%

That is certainly a battery that is past its best ) I think it has to be dead before you get a "Poor" indication.

So this matches up with the theory that as poor battery is going to cause you issues with ACC and HORN. So I will replace it soon and will let you know if I ever see this issue after changing the battery.

Installed new battery today - pretty much like for like....
Exide EL700
Not the easiest battery to install. The Kodiaq has a very annoying bracket you need some form of hook to move.

All good now ). Will let you know if the horn / acc issue ever returns!

Fingers crossed it’s all sorted.

Stuck a Kingbolen BM550 on my Christmas list; cheers for that. Looked at a 520 but I just couldn’t see me needing the features tbh.

I've just ordered one of these. I will update on the state of my battery this evening. Good old Amazon same day delivery

Charge dropped to 93% on the new battery so went for a drive and its back up to 96%. So alternator is defo sound.

Any more issues since new battery?

Nope - but soon to tell. I only had the issue twice before over months keep in mind.

Fingers crossed - not wishing ill but you almost want it to be the battery as that’s probably the easiest to solve. Let us know how you get on!

Just tested mine, the instructions aren't the best to say the least. I input 70ah Which was halfway between the two set points on the tester. Linked it up and got the following when the car was switched off and left for 2 hours.

The readings surprised me on what I assume is the original battery 69 plate with 22k miles on the clock.

I'd be interested to know your thoughts
