Can't activate car in MySkoda app "Service is unavailable" -- plus eSIM signal strength

Featured Replies

Just getting to grips with my new Mk 4 (TDI 200 L+K estate) after 15 years with a Mk2. I've set myself up as a user in the car, but when it comes to the stage in the app setup where I have to "Activate the car" it is failing every time. Sometimes it says "Service unavailable, please try later" and sometimes it shows a sad car graphic with the helpful (not) "Error 02". My wife managed to activate the car in her app, with it parked in the same place (she did it first, since she drove it home from collecting it). I've tried deleting and reinstalling the app from my iPhone and that made no difference. I found some references online to it needing a good eSIM signal for data connectivity, so I've connected the car to the house wifi, but that hasn't changed anything. That wasn't on when my wife activated her app, though. (I tried several times before connecting the car to the wifi so it's not the wifi that's the problem).

How do you see how good the mobile network strength for the eSIM is? I don't see "bars" on the main display like you'd have on a phone -- is there somewhere in the menus where I can go and find it?

And if anyone has any ideas about how to get activation to work, I'm all ears. My next step, if I can find out how to see the signal strength, is drive somewhere that's definitely got good connectivity, park up and try again...

best,

M.

I was under the impression that:

You needed to the V5 or the VIN number written down

You needed an active version account

You needed to be in the car with your phone

The car needed to be switched on with a good connection

And you need all the keys in your hand.

That’s what the app says anyway 👍
