Negative leas to engine block

Charged full

Start power was 12.4v

Finished was 13.2v

At 12.4v the stop/start will be switched off.

How long after disconnecting the charger did you get the reading 13.2v, it's best to leave it a little while, 10-20min, to allow "surface charge" to disappear. It could stop at 12.8v. If it drops below 12.6v it wasn't fully charged.

There are special chargers for stop/start batteries

It would be useful to know the battery's resting voltage after an hour so of getting home.

Check that nothing, not even a cable for a camera or phone etc, is plugged into anything that may be permanently supplied. To eliminate aftermarket parasites

Then check the reading after overnight.

The charging system in your 2024 is not the same as your 2015

Got my car back. Verdict was defective battery so replaced with new one

Took the car for an errand today and it stopped and started so many times I turned it off. So it works properly now :)

  • I 100% agree, get the multimeter out and start doing some battery voltage measurements.

My car is going into the dealer today for the same issue. Just want it checked as it’s 7 months old and has never reliably used the stop start system so I want to rule our faulty battery or alternator not charging correctly. The car goes for up to a month or so never using it displaying the symbol with the line through it and of course the day after I booked it in it used it 4 times in one short drive then never again for a week or so.

Will be interesting to see what thay find my obdeleven is coming tomorrow so will scan the car.

My bad, too early in the morning!!!

If start/stop only works for a few hours then that suggests the battery charge state isn't being maintained. How old is the battery?

If your use of the vehicle is intermittent and/or used for regular short trips, you will very likely encounter frequent issues with automatic idle stop due to insufficient charging from the alternator.

Thank you I will do prob Thursday my obdeleven is coming tomorrow so will scan car aswell.

OBD should be able to show alternator output.

Another very handy tool for the kit is a reasonable quality digital multi meter - doesn't have to be an expensive Fluke - 4000 to 6000 count DMM like a AstroAI is inexpensive and will give quick, accurate readings.

Yes I could go investigating myself but when it’s brand new I’ll let the dealer do it.

Just be aware that you will likely be fobbed-off the first time you visit Dealer for this, at the very least.

Good to go with some ammo backing any claim.

Yes I've catalogued all the issues and they have the car for the day. Also shared the photo (attached) with the dealer which says take your car to the dealer. I'm pretty sure all the random lights I've had coming on are something to do with low voltage.

The Kamiq Montecarlo loner I just drove back home stopped started about 10 times during the trip reinforcing my view there is something not quite right with my car.

Take the car to a Bsttery shop and get it LOAD TESTED or put a meter across it while you start the car A battery can float test fine but when you put a load on it the arse drops out . Only real way to tell if its stuffed or not Also ALL new batteries should be coded in so that the BCM alters the charging rate for the new battery.. Eg if you have a EFL and put in an AGM it must be coded as a FLEECE which is VAG speak for AGM

That's wha the dealer ship say they are going to do. There are only two options. Either I just got a bad battery from new or there is something wrong with the charging system.

Did they code it in as a new one???????

Yes

At least you now have that option - I use my stop/start all the time, estimating how long the halt is likely to be and disabling it if stop is likely to be less than 10 secs.

An easier way Ive been using since 2010 is just lift your foot off the brake a bit and engine will start but car wont move. Have done that Ok in A Passat a Tiguan and the Kamiq

The most annoying thing is when it stops and then the person in front devices to moves forward 1 metre and my car starts because the radar sees it move.

If you have foot hard on brake car shouldnt move until you release it. Unless Travel assist or some such crap comes into play. Have never had any of my cars do that

No my car doesn’t move but the engine restarts because the car in front moved

My loaner car was a Kamiq montecarlo. I was actually quite impressed with the space in it for such a short vehicle. Kind of fun but not a patch on the Octavia of course

Well F Me Never had any of my cars do that they just sit there until I lift off the brake Must try a few things but mine hasnt got travel assist so I dont know

Same with mine; ACC equipped manual transmission.

I have always assumed it’s part of the ‘traffic jam assist’ function (which would be far more useful with a DSG ‘box).

OK scanned the car today this is what I found.

Cleared faults rescan only 14 now most are communication faults so wandered if battery could cause this.
