Boot build nearly done just finishing touches needed.

Featured Replies

Well after about a year of planning i have finally done my boot build, simple false floor and a double 10" sub box with the subs connected to the amp via speakon connectors through the floor.

Im at the point where i need to carpet my new floor, where can u guys recommend getting the carpet from ideally a spot on match for the orginal shade of black thats in the car?

the car is a fabia comfort 1.4

The car now does 0-60 in half a day without bass on, bass on u cant time it too much extra propulsion ............

(ill be putting pics online in a few days to show it off)

Might be worth a check at your local Halfords. They usually have or can get quite a good range of carpets.

And hurry up with the pics! Even work in progress pics!

how far up the false floor is in my boot

and wot lurks below the floor

so wot u guys think? things left to do, car floor, maybe vent the underneath, and sound proofing

Looks good. I would definitely ventilate under the false floor. Couple of 80mm PC fans one to blow and on to suck. Get a reasonable airflow through there to keep the amp happy.

Sorry. Don't take this personally, but can anyone tell me what is the benefit of having such a large speakers in the boot? Evertime I go into Halfords, I see these for sale. I just dont get it. Please can someone explain?????

Most of the time a bigger speaker can handle more/lower bass and more bass is better :) (depending on the type of music you like)

BTW VERY nice install.

OK more bass. But you can get good base from the standard speakers. Why put huge speakers and an extra amplifier in the boot???

I was trying to avoid saying this, but IMHO it smacks of cruises and boyracers, something I personally grew out of some time ago. Unless of course anyone can change my mind and answer the question. It surely is not just about bass is it??

if you want to get the full effect of a decent piece of music you need to have subs as normal speakers just cannot deliver the range of sounds to fully replicate a song properly.

but then some take it further as they like bass and like the feel of a nice clean bass line thumping in the back.

now this may cloud the situation slightly and make people think i am biased but i actually have 4 12" subs in my boot.

people buy/do things to cater to their own personal tastes rather than pure necessity like others do, like why i drive a 4WD 1.8T when the 80bhp 1.8 sierra i also own can easily exceed any speed limit in the uk and i don't drive off road :D its simply because i want it.

for me peronally i have subs because i like a nice clean heavy bass line and like to really feel it, some have them simply to complete the audio experience of their favourite tracks then there are others that don't see the point so don't spend/waste hundreds of pounds buying them :)

100% yes

its no different to buying a home cinema system and using the sub that comes with the kit. its there to fully recreate the track as it intended to be.

Good bass for you might be "pathic" bass for someone else.

For me personally the standard speakers do not have enough bass - especially at higher speeds (road noise drowns it out). I have put my alpine cd player out of my felica nad a Vibe activ 12" sub - it has an amp built in. It puts out more then enough bass for me, which is quite a bit - being a bassplayer and all ;)

I'll take a pic and post it in a sec....

It wouldn't work for me/us to have a sub in the boot in the Fabia, not the largest boot in particular. Must admit though I'm tempted to upgrade the speakers at some stage, but then every time I think is it worth it for me/us.

SWMBO has a Kia with cr@p speakers that do my nut in, but she won't let me change them for something decent. That one desperately needs a speaker upgrade, and speakers in the back. Sub in that would take up the boot completely as it hasn't even got room for a spare

i have plenty of room for atleast 4 bags of shopping in here :D

That looks VERY cool! Bet it chucks some bass out ;)

Is it an Octavia?

I would be a bit parainoid about stuff in the boot (shopping) hitting n' splitting my nice expensive speaker though....

I found the standard speakers (4 mid/bass and 4 tweeters) to be actaully really good (will a decent head unit) when combiened with a bit of bass. The tweeters really help carry the high end over the bass nicely. :)

yup, octavia 4x4 estate :D

a young hairdresser was impressed with the bass a little while back :)

Nice. What head unit do ya have? Are you using the standard speakers?

i have the JVC ax1, dvd player, mp3/wma on DVD(currently got about 57albums in there on one disc :D ), reverse camera etc etc and 7" roof screen for them in the abck :)

need to get my sat-nav sorted though :(

forgot about spearkers

rears are standard but i have some MB Quart components in the front :)

nice.

it does me nicely, only things i really want to get sorted are the freeview box(that i blew up :o ) and fancy adding a motorized in-dash screen for watching films better as the screen on the headunit is only 3"

Kool. One "blinged out Octy" then eh? ;)

Thanks guys. Everyone to their own. I wont be rushing to Halfords in the near future, nor will I be asking you to help me move house

well not actually that much on show inside but it is lowered on different alloys and got tints so could well be considered bling :)
