Assist System Mystery on Dashboard Display

Featured Replies

Hi all,

I have a Skoda Scala 2022 plate SE trim. I have been wondering on what on earth this screen is on my dashboard. I get to it via the safety systems menu but it doesn’t seem to do anything.

Do you have adaptive cruise control or front collision assist? Or even rear park assist?

Not sure. This is a fairly basic se trim. I do have front collision assist but I suspect that the cruise control is basic?

Are you referring to the red seatbelt warning in the tacho - or the white line diagram on the Maxidot display?

OK, I'm suspecting one of two things then:

Either the display is part of the parking sensors (most likely) or it is part of the front collision assist.

Does this display appear on it's own when you engage reverse gear?

It is also entirely possible that you've navigated into a display for a function you don't have. Without you being a little more precise about how and when this display appears I'm out of ideas.

Sorry guys for not being as clear as I could be! I am referring to the black and white display in the middle of the console. I get to this page by clicking the assist button on the wheel , doing a selection of speed adjust or the lane guidance then clicking odd, which takes me to this blank screen. I think I saw a photo once of where there is meant to be a car image with a horizontal line that you adjust to set how close you want your car to be to the one in front.

It could very well be the case that this is something that doesn't come with my car though it is odd that I have access to this screen. Also odd is that the speed adjust toggle does nothing. I assumed this was for some kind of adaptive cruise control.

I'd say that it looks like one of the assist programmes (either front or rear) It does look like part of a rear camera image.

delete already answered question.

Are you sure you have adaptive cruise?

Are you sure you are turning it on before using the steering wheel controls?

I don't have adaptive cruise but mine turns on on the lighting stalk.

Do you have the owners manual? If not you can get it as a download from the Skoda web site.

@willliamm can you post an image of your left-hand control stalk so that we can identify what type of Cruise you have?

Here you go!

I read somewhere that there may be a software update to enable this functionality as cars were shipped out without it being enabled.

Thanks, that appears to be Standard (not Adaptive) Cruise Control.

That is standard cruise control. You have it turned on. Can you set a cursing speed with it? You do that using the little button on the very end of the stalk, you can just see it in your photo.

Is the car new to you? It may be that somebody (previous owner) has attempted to enable a feature you don't have.

Surely that's part of the PITA not to be relied on or trusted lane "assist".

See the (skimpy) VWŠkoda 'Owner's Manual' for your model and year (or VIN), 'Driver assist systems' - 'Lane assist' particularly the 'Function restriction' section. - https://www.skoda-auto.com/apps/manuals/Models

Mmmm yes the cruise control works but it is basic, nothing adaptive at all. Considering that this car has that mini radar thing at the front I wonder why it wouldn't also be used for adaptive cruise control. I bought the car second hand last November. I was just looking at the software and maybe it could do with an update?20251101_125533.jpg

With standard CC, the front radar is used only for collision avoidance braking (front assist) and spacing warning when travelling above a certain speed (I think >40MPH)

Adaptive CC can be retrofitted, but different hardware needs to be fitted - it isn't just a software update.

added information

I'm going to stick with my original thoughts:

What Warrior has said is correct, there is a front sensor but it's for collision avoidance only. You should also see a dashboard symbol when you are too close to the vehicle in front.

I think somebody may have attempted to "upgrade" your system without full knowledge but I could be wrong.

Normally for park assist the information and camera image (if fitted) appears in the infotainment window.

My suggestion is take it to the Skoda dealer, ask them and also have the software updated if they recommend it. Sometimes software updates are more trouble than they are worth.

Also have you downloaded the manual for your car yet from the Skoda web site?

See the (skimpy) VWŠkoda 'Owner's Manual' for your model and year (or VIN), 'Driver assist systems' - 'Lane assist' - 'Functionality' -

"Display

Display example in black and white display." - (As it's an European car manufacturer in this example the steering wheel appears to be on the left). -
