Oil Consumption & MPG Drop – Skoda Kodiaq 2023 2.0 TDI 200bhp Laurin & Klement 4x4

Featured Replies

I´d say 3-4mm

I have the same engine in my Octavia vRS. I’m currently at 75k km. After about 5500 km the oil on the dipstick is about halfway down. I think that’s a bit much, can’t be great for the DPF longterm. My old 2017 Passat BiTdi 240bhp dipstick was still full at 15k when changing the oil.

Hi,

I do have the same Kodiaq Mk1 MY22 TD200 4x4 L&K.

Bought it in last April @ ~40000km. Had the oil and oil filter changed @47000 km (since previous maintenance had been a bit offset by previous owner). It now has 53000km, but I haven't topped up yet, mainly because, the dealer had poor a bit too much oil in... It's now at the max allowed level. I'll check how it decreases over the next months...

Dealing with fuel consumption, I've similar fuel burn values, I'd say.

A full tank (~58l) enables me to cover 800 to 880km depending on driving style and outside temp.

Real average fuel consumption (calculated value, not dashboard value) is 7.30L/100km since I'm the owner (~13000km over last 7 months). I've dropped down to 6.9l once or twice. Max value was over 8.0l once after a 300km trip on french motorway with a 80-100kmh headwind. Most of the time, it's between 7.1 and 7.4l/100km.

Thank you Bap that's interesting and some great detail information.

It would be great to hear about future oil usage based on your real world driving in the same vehicle.

Hi all,

so the Kodiaq went in for its Part 2 of the Oil Consumption test.

I was informed this was within Skoda tolerances, but have since found that as per the Kodiaq.

However on checking the online manual for the Skoda Kodiaq and other VW vehicles I found this statement:

'VW Group’s acceptable limit: up to 0.5 L per 1,000 km'

Oil consumption: 0.536 L per 1,000 km (≈ 0.536 L per 621 miles)

As mine exceeds the VW Group’s maximum permissible limit of 0.5 L/1000 km, as documented in both the Owner’s Manual and Technical Service Bulletin 2017813/19.

I have written to the main dealer again asking what the next steps are that will be undertaken under warranty.

I thought I would keep all posted

Cheers

EDIT, sorry i see you had the TPI. A litre of oil is 856 grams @ 15*oC. . Meaning 0.5 litres is 428 grams..... 33 ................. . VW tolerance in writing in the owners manual statement about 'may use as much as and more in the first 5,000 km' has been the same fore decades for every engine 44kW up Petrol / Diesel, 3,4,5,6,.8,10,12 cylinders. 1.4TSI Twinchargers using more than 0.3 litres in 1,000 km / 621 miles had Engines replaced under warranty. There were tests done in the past where a Tech / fitter made the error of calculating 1 litre of oil being 1,000 grams. a 1 litre of oil in an unopened bottle is not 1,000 grams.

@larsdowg What a pity the tech never deducted the weight of the container so we knew how much oil came out at normal operating temperature. 3,100 grams would be only 3.6 litres if that was just the oil weight. They drained not much oil since that weight includes the container in that report.

Hi,

I had to top up oil level on last week-end. I'm not 100% sure, but I think I've poored ~350ml over ~4000km.

Much more than my ex. Superb Mk3 which needed roughly 0,5l over 15000km.

I didn't update my previous Superb post recently but my car is 2 years old now and booked in for the 60k km service next week.

The oil consumption is still high but has remained constant at ~1L per 7000km.

The garage will again check for signs of oil in the usual places but I assume they will say all is fine & higher consumption is normal with this engine & 0W30 oil....

They suggested that going back to 5W30 might improve the situation but advised against it until the warranty was over in case there was really something wrong which I wanted to claim against the warranty.

As the car is running fine, I will probably stay with the standard oil.

I've found it around £40 for 5L so pick up a tub each year I come back to the UK.

My fuel economy is good for the DSG 4x4 (5.8-6l/100km) so I'm happy to accept the explanation of the dealer so far.

Hi,

Some news to update my previous sayings, since I've replaced engine oil by myself @ 60000km.

This morning, the orange oil level alarm popped up 8000km later. I've then topped-up something like 350-400ml this evening. Nothing alarming, but still about twice more than my ex Superb Estate Mk3 (TDI190 4x4).

If you are getting a lot of failed DPF regens due to short runs it can lead to dilution with diesel in oil which will make it thinner and more susceptible to be burnt. There was a recent post of a tdi experiencing a short and very lucky run on due to oil being so thin it managed to get past seals in turbo. His oil level was high when he checked but assumed it was overfilled. I try to take my 1.6tdi out for a decent run at least once a week as its now only doing short runs.
