Variable Servicing - actual intervals

Featured Replies

According to the manual servicing will be anywhere between 9000 and 20,000 (or is it 30,000) miles depending on how the car is driven.

My 2004 Superb PD130 had got to 13,000 miles in 7 months when that went with no signs of a service due.

Current PD130 is about 9 months old and 10,000miles, though I'm going to rack up a few thousand over the summer. Mine was initially a demo, so it's probably been thrashed, so I'll be happy if I can get to 15k.

What are the actual mileages people have had their first and subsequent services at?

I bought my Octy at 15k, and had it serviced (fixed) at 20k with long ife oil for variable in the future. It's now at 40k with no signs of a service reqd yet. i do about 15k per year. 80% is motorway miles (of which 25% is stop start ruch hour) the rest is b and c class roads and i do have a heavy foot sometimes.

So 20k and still waiting.

I've just had my first service request come up at 19.5K on my 5 month old Pd130 Edition 100.

19.5K in 5 months

 thats going some.

I'm the support manager for a UK wide communications company (no not BT), why do you think I got such a comfortable car. :D

Hi

My 1.9Tdi 130 has done 15k in 9 months with no service warning as yet. Colleagues with 1.9 & 2.0 Tdi Skoda's and Audis report their warnings have come up at around 17-19k so I would expect thereis a problem with the variable setting somewhere !

hello all

just joined the merry gang, so here goes for the first post!!

I have a 1.8 manual on mainly motorway runs and try to do 70 ish most of the time. The servicing flag has just come up(a bit small on this base model) at 20,033 miles in 5 months. It has used 4 lts of oil. I'm quite pleased with that. I only hope that the servicing is up to expectation, bet they don't change the pollen filter!!icon12.gif

Had my Superb Elegance 1.9tdi 130 for 10 months, done 40k and had 2 services, 20k seems to be the norm for my variable servicing, I do mostly motorway miles.

Just had rear pads replaced at 35k but front pads still have 50% left ??, typical rep !..dont use my brakes much !!!

Our Acty 110 tdi averaged 23000 miles for services on variable

Hi All,

54 Plate 130 Tdi Superb currently with 46k on the clock. First service was at 19k miles, 2nd at 38k.

What surprised me is that I can do quite a lot of 2 mile trips, which I thought would bring the intervals down significantly. Service recieved at Skoda has been great, especially when they let you use a Fabia vRS whilst the luxo-barge was being fettled!

Got a 2.5 V6 on a 53 plate which I bought when 18 months old with 11,000 on the clock. Mileage got up to 20,500 but I was still not getting a service warning. Got it serviced only because it was 2 years old, and that is the maximum interval.

My service light has now come on at a disappointing 15000 miles, given that the average on here is more like 19000 miles. My suspicions that the car has been thrashed during it's early life as a demonstrator may be right.

I've only used about 400ml of oil in the 7500 miles I've had the car, which isn't too bad. Car is booked in at Farmers Skoda (Leicester) for the service along with the obligatory list of problems (warranty) which I will be amazed if even half of them are solved. :(

Diesel is 30k or 2 years whichever occurs first IIRC. My 2.0TDi 140 octy is on 16K now, and no signs of service due. My service book says next service is due by indicator or Aug 07, whichever comes first.

2 services so far in 2 years on the Octy 130 , both came up at around the 18.5k mark , most of the drives are motorway , some on the brisk side .

OK please bear with me because i havent fully read and understood the owners manual for my 52 reg Superb. But, what is all this variable servicing all about? Does it come up with a warning to tell you when it needs a service? How do you maximise the time in between services. I do 130 miles a day when going to work all motorway miles except for about 7 of that 130 which are stop start. I try to drive as fuel efficiently as possible. Any idea how long between services?

Hi

My TD130 Comfort has just flagged up "service" after about 17600 miles. I do a lot of local short distance driving with occasional motorway bursts, so to me that seems reasonable.

When the car is purchased new you can opt for regular servicing intervals (eg every 10K) or variable. Do you know how yours was set ?

In the case of variable, I believe the engine is filled with oil to a different spec than for fixed (more expensive to top up too!) and the electronics are set to suit variable servicing, so when the oil "quality" drops to a certain level, the "service in 1000 miles" indicator lights. When this happens will depend on how you drive it.

If you are on fixed intervals, i guess it gives you the message based on miles travelled since last service (??)

Hopefully others like Baker21 will be able to giveyou the full details (and guidance on driving for max intervals) but i think the above covers the basics of what happens. if your 52 Superb was bought second hand , you need to know what it is set for - fixed or variable. IIRC there is a sticker inside the service book full of codes describing your car's build (there is on my 55 Superb) and one of the codes tells you how the servicing interval for the car was at time of delivery - the handbook or service booklet will help you decode.

My journeys are mostly 70 mile round trips on back roads to work and back, with the odd motorway jaunt thrown in (it's done at least 3000 miles on the motorway out of the 7500 I've done).

I've been adding oil to keep it the level right - I've been using Mobil 1 - which the Skoda dealer in Birmingham gave me. Couldn't get hold of the 506.01 oil anywhere (or is it 506.02?) Anyway, after the service I'll ony be using the proper stuff - someone gave me a link on the 'net where I can buy some.

Not sure if my service light has come on because of the Mobil 1 or the way the car was driven in its first 7500 miles as a demo. I suspect the latter.

Mind you, can't really complain - my old Passat was every 10,000 miles, and my last car (Saab 9-5) was every 12,000, so 15,000 is not all that bad. Hopefully will get it to 35,000 before it needs its second service :D

Ref available oil for the PD engines, the 50601 oil can be tricky to track down unless you go to a VAG dealer. I found Castrol SLX Longlife II oil in a local car accessory shop and that claims to meet the 50601 standard.

Shell Helix Ultra X 0W-30 longlife oil is apparently another one thta meets the spec.

Hope this helps

Getting slightly concerned that the service indicator on my 2001 Y reg 1.9Tdi (110bhp) Elegance should have come on by now? Now on 84000 miles, over 23000 since the last variable service was done in September 2005. I do mostly long runs, not too much stop start city driving. I would be reassured if owners who have had more than 23000 miles between variable services, could post here. Thanks.
