Easy home smart link activation

Featured Replies

Googling recently re smart link activation and I found a recent YouTube video which is clear and easy to follow and after following the instructions, it worked. I have android auto and apple car play installed successfully

Smart link activation

you just need a cheap OBD2 dongle from ebay, I used this one and downloaded an app from the play store that is mentioned in the video, took about half an hour to do

Hi Steve, what headset do you have? Mine’s a 2016 Bolero with a sd slot but no navigation option.

Hi Steve

Thanks for the link. I have been trying find a cheap way of activating android auto, looks like this is it, if my unit is compatible.

I have a couple of questions. Firstly, does the software work smoothly, or does it crash?

Secondly, given that you need to connect your phone by cable to the head unit, do you find that you use it much? I tend to leave my phone in my outer jacket which I put in the boot when commuting.

I guess that google maps would be the thing I would use if I was doing an unfamiliar journey. My music is on an SD card so no need for spotify etc.

Thanks

Alan

I watched the video several times to be sure and buying the obd reader will have uses further on when the orange warnings pop up next

Software installation ran well, make sure your engine is running to ensure stable power (battery power drops can cause it to crash) as to use, I run Waze for navigation and an app called Musicolet to play downloaded or ripped music through the speakers, this app is compatible with Android auto and I don't want to pay Spotify to listen to music I own
