Anti toe-in bolt ons?

Featured Replies

Was told by protyre this morning that when they've seen extremely lowered cars (mine's around 65mm-70mm lower than standard) that there's some kind of bolt on that helps with the natural repercussion of extreme lowering, that of increasing the toe a fair bit (or am I thinking of camber?..... might be :o)

He said it usually bolts on the lower arm and has the effect of pushing the top of the wheel out a bit to compensate for the camber change.

Anyone know of anything for the Fabia? Sounds like something I should invest in, if only to preserve front tyre life a bit more.

Sounds similar to what a friend of mine had fitted to his corsa c which was lowered. The lowering resulted in too much camber on the back wheels. They fitted somthing so they could readjust the camber.

Yeah, thats the bunny. Wasn't sure if maybe something existed in the VW world that perhaps could be applied to a Fabia? I was told my rear camber was pretty well setup now its lowered :D:thumbup: but the front wasn't really right at all, compared to guidelines, etc.

i'm sat here now trying to work out where you could bolt something on to the lower arm to reduce(?) the camber , surely to reduce the camber you will need to shorten the lower arm because what you have done by lowering the car is theoretically lengthen the arm but in reality only moved the hub/balljoint pivot position further into the arc the lower arm makes when the suspension is compressed . I dont think the rear camber changes too much when it is lowered as it pivots in a different axis to the front . if i'm talking b#####ks please tell me and i'll get me coat , a lightweight summer version

Yeah, I'm struggling to get my head around it, with prior "knowledge" of what the suspension/hub etc arrangement is.

I've just thought (I think :D) there's an arm that goes off my suspension strut, and bolts to the steering / rack area. I wonder if that arm were a few mm longer, if it would push the top of the hub out a bit?

I know this pic is 90 degrees out, but its this bit of metal I'm thinking of. :)

do you mean the roll bar link ? that wont adjust the camber Jason , i've thought of another way of adjusting the camber , by having an adjustable top mount at the top of the shock absorber , but if you start moving the geometry around there it might make it steer all funny

Yeah, you're right.

All looks very unadjustable to me....

Not really clued up on techy things but can you get wheels that take into accout the camber.... ..........and no I haven't been drinking............Yet..;)

the older golfs i know used to be adjustable by the 2 bolts that clamped the shocker to the hub , that would be handy on your skoda , ask Ross whether you can fit golf shockers and hubs to the Fabia , no dont do that , or see if skoda or seat or vw do a different length lower arm , or re-drill the balljoint holes further inboard , no dont do that either , i think your going to be stuck with what you've got mate , unless anybody else knows different

How about raising the suspension:sofahide:

 Wash your mouth out with soap!

I'll give you a little insider info.

I have yet to see any Fabia that actually gets inside 'specs' with regards to front camber.

The best advice is just to get them as even as possible.

I've left my printout in the car :o but memory says both were somewhere around -2.2/2.3.

That is a fair bit..lol.

Need adjustable top mountings then.

That was starting to be my last place to do any adjustments, but have no idea where to go for such a thing. I think I need to move the top of the strut a fair way toward to the wing to remedy the camber issue by a whole degree or so.

I have a spare box of frogs in the garage if you want them Jason.

You seem to have used all of yours up..

Cable tie or two? ;)

Found out after reviewing my alignment sheet again that it was only about 1.1 degrees out each side where the setup should be -0.5 to 0. Not to worry really then. :)

Thats fine then, about 1 degree each side is about right.

 Glad to hear it. :)

Car feels a bit better around bends now, and it holds a steady line when I let go of the wheel, apart from where the natural road construction makes it pull to the left slightly.
