Front wipers and washer have stopped working

Featured Replies

Front wipers and wash system have failed on my 2014 Mk3 diesel estate. Scanner shows faults with Wiper control module and Voltage supply terminal 30, open circuit. Where are these located please? And what can I do when I find them?

Suggests a blown fuse, have you checked relevant one(s)?

Thanks Pete. I checked all fuses as my initial thought but all intact.

Cabin and under-bonnet fuse locations?

I can't access circuits before this evening unfortunately.

If is a fuse problem it should be fuse F19 under the bonnet if you have viusually checked it could be the case to test it with a multimeter or just replace it and try to se if somwthing wakes up

I checked both fuses areas. Oddly, the washer worked for a few seconds earlier but, as with the wipers, no joy now. So I am guessing a bad wire, loose or corroded connection or terminal somewhere

The Ancel scanner in fact shows the following 4 faults:

Left low beam headlamp bulb, open circuit/short circuit

Right high beam headlamp bulb, open circuit

Voltage supply terminal 30 for central locking, open circuit

Wiper motor control module, no communication

Terminal 30 being open circuit is a good indicator that you have problems with blown fuses.

Thanks but surprised that washer should come back temporarily if it's a blown fuse.

Where do I find the wiper motor control module?

Where do I find the wiper motor control module?

I would trace the fuses controlling the other open circuits first - just maybe, the wiper control module is powered by one of the same fuse(s)? Don't condemn the module until you know the fuses and wiring are OK.

Sorted. I had checked all the fuses but couldn't see how it could be a blown fuse as the washer pump worked intermittently. A corroded wire was in fact restricting the current to the wiper motor. All working correctly now after a tidy up and a spray with some contact cleaner. Nice to find a free fix.
