Limiter Question: 2026 Škoda Kodiaq 1.5 SE L Plug-in Hybrid

Featured Replies

About to order a Škoda Kodiaq 1.5 SE L Plug-in Hybrid but unsure about standard limiter.

My current car has a limiter that reads the map data either from the inbuilt satnav or from apple play using my iPhone (Google Maps) and if it determines by reading the sat nave data that I am entering a speed restriction it will automatically slow the speed of the car to that of the speed restriction I am entering even if I maintain the same throttle setting on the accelerator. So, for example, if I enter a 30mph zone and have the limiter switched on, the car will automatically slow to 30mph.

I understand that the Škoda Kodiaq 1.5 SE L Plug-in Hybrid has a limiter fitted as standard, but I am unsure whether it will read the speed restriction data from the satnav / google maps and AUTOMATICALLY slow the car. One dealer has told me that I need the Adaptive Cruise Control package if I need the limiter to AUTOMATICALLY reduce speed to the restriction limit, but Skoda's video on Adaptive Cruise Control simply shows an automatic reduction of speed when following a slower (or stopped) car in front - which is not what I am asking. Another dealer has told me that I don't need the Adaptive Cruise Control package, as the Limiter will adjust the speed of the car to the satnav data.

CONFUSING!!!

So.... does the standard limiter on a Škoda Kodiaq 1.5 SE L Plug-in Hybrid AUTOMATICALLY slow the car to the restriction speed, or will it simply show an alert without changing the car's speed?

Can someone with a limiter but not the Adaptive Cruise Control resolve the question please? Thank you in advance for a clear, unambiguous answer!!!

I have the Kodiaq Sportline and it has the mandated (under EU regulations) speed limiter. This is enabled every time the car is started. Should you exceed the permitted speed limit on any piece of road, the limiter will emit an audible alarm but there is no automatic reduction of speed to the specified limit. It is frankly an irritation as is the lane keeping feature. I regularly turn both off before I move the car. My car also has ACC but I never use it. I don't think is has any effect on the speed limiter.

AFAIK the only way to get this function is the package with adaptive cruise.

I have it on my 2.0 SEL. If fully enabled, it will also reduce speed when negotiating tighter bends in the road.

One thing to bear in mind is that it can sometimes react to speed limits for roadworks where the lower limit has gone.

For me, that’s the only down side, but easily overcome by pressing the set button at your current speed.

I wouldn’t be without it

Thanks, Colin, CFB

Yes, that clarifies things nicely. I will need the adaptive cruise pack. I dislike cruise control, but assume from CFB's response that I don't have to set cruise - just need the Adaptive Cruise switched on.
Current car has limiter that responds only to satnav data - and yes, can be a pain when passing 20mph side road restrictions when the car slows to 20mph in a 30mph restricted zone because satnav accuracy is (understandably) not that of a cruise missile!
I therefore tend to use Google Maps via Apple Car Play, as their satnav data is often a lot more recent than the original satnav data in the car (three years old now).

Thanks

Hello there,

It is called travel assist. You basically have 3 options - Speed limiter, Adaptive cruise control and Travel assist.

I never used the speed limiter, but I believe it functions similar to the one in the F1 cars, meaning you set it at a speed and then it will not go faster.

The adaptive cruise control will require you to set a speed, usually above 30 KMPH, then it will keep that speed, as long as there is no car in front; if there is, it will slow down and match the speed of the car in front. It will not speed up over the milit you set. You can select 4-5 distances from the car in front.

The travel assist will allow you to just supervise the car, while it will drive as per the speed limit of the road / applicable speed of that zone. It will also stop completely, resume driving, like in heavy traffic all you have to do is to keep your hands on the steering wheel and ofc supervise it.

Personally, I tried the travel assist and is annoying, there are small portions of the road, like 20-30 meters with 30 KMPH as a speed limit and the speed restrictions are not far enough from one another, the result being that the car will slow down pretty abruptly, to match the speed limit, or accelerate quicker than I would. So I prefer driving my car by myself, but that's just me. )

It is also dangerous, as people behind can be taken by surprise by these abrupt changes.

Hope it helps.

Cheers!
