Sold my 1.5SEL Karoq

Featured Replies

After 7 years and 41,000 miles I have sold my Karoq . Generally it has suited my needs quite well, being quite economical averaging around 40-45mpg. it has carried all sorts of bulky loads e.g. a very heavy log splitter and piles of logs but the one serious problem has precipitated the sale. Its intermiitent habit of stalling when entering a roundabout or dual caarriageway this has caused much irritation and has put me on several occasions in a dangerous position, what makes it worse is the VW refuse to acknowlege the problem that is rife on the internet across models using the 1.5 engine.

The replacement a kia Xceed, that is not as large, the engine much simpler in its design and sold with a 7 year guarantee, Early days but I have found it rather rather more nippy than the Karoq with several nice improvements.

My Karoq 1.5 is also 7 years old, doesn't stall and never has. Always strange to hear that some have issues.

Another plus for the Kia is that they still use a timimg chain so no worries about rubber timing belts breaking the downside is the engine is a bit noisier.

Visibility is better in the Karoq due to the hatch back.

Someone gave a plausible explanation for the stalling a while back suggesting that as the engine is so complex due to running on three cylinders when unloaded etc.that the manufacturing tolerances have to be spot on so if the odd car is slightly out of spec it could give rise to problems, that seems reasonable but not much consolation for maverick car owners.

Is this stalling issue only on manuals or does it affect DSGs? Thinking of buying the in-laws 1.5 petrol DSG SE Tech as they may stop driving shortly. They haven’t said anything about stalling on roundabouts but that doesn’t mean there isn’t an issue.

@DSL Some of the early ones including DSG,s were included in the Full DVLA Safety Critical RECALL in the UK & got the software update. Some still had issues after. So was it part of those and was the Recall Action carried out?

Thanks for that. The car is 21 plate, and no recalls showing on the .gov site. Fingers crossed it’s not affected. 🤞

There were no recalls on the ones after the WLTP was first brought in and VW / Skoda messed with Engine Management to get cerification. They messed up, hence kangarooing, just less obviouis with the DSG on a 1.5 TSI ACT. The cutting out thing came after that and some have complained and obviously those that have no issues were lucky and often say there is no issue. Well not for them there is not.
