Strange Steering

Featured Replies

Yup this a strange one more so because I cant really describe the problem ....

For the past couple of weeks the steering has felt strange.... Not possessed weird but just .... Strange ...

I really cant describe it but you know if you have had a car for nearly 10 years when something is different you notice.

A little like the Wife but have to say I'm probably more in tune with the car ....

Tried drive modes and the same feeling persists.

Don't ask me to explain it ... I can tell you it doesn't feel heavier ... I suppose it feels less precise ? No play there when I move the steering wheel everything feels solid enough. No whines, clunks or noise at least unit I try to exit the car ..

<sigh>

Edit to add tyre pressures OK and 6 month old Pilot sport 5's plenty of tread

Bushes maybe causing slight wander ?

Hi , really concerning but have you changed the weight of the steering by mistake.

Tracking - How is the tyre wear - tyre pressure - have you checked the front suspension.

Mmm... No I don't think it's bushes it really was a one day OK the next day not ...

I would probably say it's more likely to be a sensor prob or some electrical gremlin but I think if I took it to the dealer at the mo they would say nowt wrong wid dat init ....

dsg Yeah all that OK.

With my suspicions I suppose I was just wondering if anyone had similar.

Do not take it to the Dealer then, go to a Motor Mechanic.

It's under warranty.

Useful to say what you have, age and miles. If a fault that is covered under warranty then it will be repaired for free gratis and no diagnosis charge. If they can find nothing and will not fix what they can not find then a diagnosis by an Independent is Simply Clever, then tell the Skoda Dealership Techs what you believe to be at fault.

What I have is in my profile age is in my first post 57k miles.

Having to look at profiles as well as posts gets to be a bit OT just IMO. What kind of warranty is it on a 2015 Superb?

You are welcome to your opinion and the Warranty situation has no bearing at all on my post.

Vagueness is far more likely to be bush and joint wear than anything electrical. I had both lower arms replaced a few months ago for exactly the sort of feelings you describe at more or less the same mileage. Nothing clonked or wobbled, it just felt...not as sharp as it had been.

The Superb is very much towards the heavy end of the MQB range, so the parts between it and the road will take more of a battering.

Either way, it’s simplest and easiest to just state it in post or have details in signature so it’s easy to see straight off.

I didn’t spot the age of the car in your first post so was wondering the same.

Also, we’re all asking for help; putting some basic details about model/age/mileage helps people help you; def no need to be offhand if someone asks for that info.

I’ll update with a resolution if any for the benefit of any superb owner that may have similar prob in future.

My money's on worn out strut top bearings but check for anything rubbing on the rotating parts of the steering column.

Bizarrely it feels better today ! 😆

Maybe just mentioning it on here has fixed it !

Sometimes worn or loose drop links can cause a bit of sway as well.

Thanks UR had those replaced as well along with shockers discs and pads though I may as well get it all over and done with at the same time !

Are you getting this on motorway or anywhere? I usually find the left hand lane on motorway you can get tramlinimg with all the lorry’s sinking in a bit
