Suspect it's not likely to reach the threshold for a parliamentary debate 🙁

Can't help but wonder, if I buy a 1984 car, and gradually replace the engine, drivetrain, shell, interior, electrics, so basically everything until just a few bolts (and maybe a car mat) remain, would that exceptionally well restored car, that'll have very distinct similarities to my 2018 GTI (or V70, depending on which one's being hammered the most for VED) be exempt under the 40 year exemption?

'... the UK's legally binding climate targets' - so we might, or we might not, it's just a target. Does that not say we're legally bound to achieve whatever we end up achieving, or not achieving? 🙄

Only problem with that plan is the cost of the 'restoration' would exceed the VED savings, with the break-even timescale possibly being longer than the restored vehicles lifespan.

There was a guy who wanted to own the very last Moggy Minor ever constructed, it was built from stock parts and cost (I think) 10 times the OTR price of a factory build!

Bugger - looks like I still need to wait another 10 years for my MX5 to be free of VED...

I'm thinking my only actual expenditure 'might' be two wheel bolts and a couple of dodgy ol' car mats 😁 (The rest of it would come from my 2018 GTI donor car 👍).

Heck, I could have the whole restoration done in five minutes! thinking
