Car door lock barrel change

Featured Replies

Hi All, the central locking on the drivers side door doesn't work on my Son's Felicia LXI, so we changed the mechanism, which didn't fix the issue - the servo works, so next thing to change is the lock barrel - before I order one, has anyone had a similar issue before? The handle is fine, all the mechanicals appear to function correctly.....

This is the mechanism we changed out, seemed to be nothing wrong with it TBH.

This is the lock barrel - note one of the castellated protrusions was snapped off - could that be the cause of the issue?

What we're going to do is to take the lock barrel from the front passenger door, and fit it to the drivers side door - then that will either narrow down the issue, or cause some more headbanging....

So, I think I may have solved it - see the attached images of the lock barrel cap, the lug that is broken should restrict the movement of the latch, which it doesn't.... and low and behold, on line I found new caps!

I have a similar problem, from driver's side unlocks but does not lock.

The mechanic said that a temporary solution can be applied but won't last long, so or i will change it with the passenger's lock or i have to leave it as is.

Well, he did swap the locks from right to left, but it wouldn't function correctly, and this morning we found out that he had re-attached the locking rods to the wrong locations (I reiterated that he should have taken photos before he disassembled....)! So, it functions now, but we're going to wait for the lock barrel end cap to arrive, and then refit everything.

Good idea, or drawing and/or notes but photos at different angles that you can zoom in on for detail is a good modern way - but this still assumes that the installation was correct, always check and cross reference any information including how things are now on the car.

Seat of trousers dusted with your toe cap. 😄

Young macho brain usually assumes it's correct, I blame the parents. 😉

The left-right movement (lock-unlock) on one lock is opposite in the other.

That's odd, because he's just completed the assembly with the right barrel lock in the left door, and the complete central locking system functions correctly! 🙂

I wonder in my case: all it's missing is this part?

It would appear to be the case - try swapping the lock barrel from the other door, it's probably the easiest way to check - certainly easier than removing/refitting the locking mechanisms! By the way, after my son had spent hours peering at the Haynes manual instructions, I found the Skoda Workshop manual - much better! Chapter 57-8 onwards.

I bought that one from sp-el 😀

I have bought items from amd-autodily, they're a good supplier - I've even returned things I accidentally bought (a rear window seal that I thought was a rear door seal).

Used one may be the best option for you, the circlip is easily removable, I removed it with a screw driver and my son re-fitted it by the same method, but circlip pliers are cheap

I know that store, first was Autodily itself and was accepting only Bank transfer payment, lot of delay and fees. Now things must changed.

I found those rings from Uk at 20 euro total cost, a new set of Locks has about 23 euro and except those 2 rings you can keep some parts ''just in case'' for the future.

  • 3 months later...

Update: I bought from UK store and gave to my mechanic to install that Ω shape Door lock repair part and YES my driver's side lock work as it should be after so many months !

The ''click'' is a bit ''tougher'' compared to the passenger's door but i think is due to the different material and the 2nd lock has been used more.

Give it a stray of good long lasting lubricant (that's not WD-40 Multi-Use but if that's all you have it will do).

typo

I use Silicone spray in locks even in my house,i consider the WD-40 as ''anti-rust'' product although i have my doubts that tiny grains of rust when removed where are they going? Maybe among the mechanism which ''shred'' them? If the mechanism can not ''washed out'' soon or later those grains will ''snug'' somewhere inside.

I used to use graphite powder in locks but even the tiny amount needed makes such a mess that I stopped, it's a bit like coppergrease a tiny bit seems to coat everywhere else. as you know GT85 is my go too for most penertrating/releasuing and longer lasting lubricamt. I spray all the garden tools I use with GT85 to clean, lubricate and protect whilst in damp sheds.
