I've ordered another pair of the 4-led W5W and a 9 LED festoon to do the interior lights.:thumbup:

hehehe... we'll soon see when it stops raining ;)

are they road legal?

Yes. Loads of cars (VW included) have them as standard or option on thier range. It used to be that if it wasn't an incandecent fillament bulb, then it would be illegal. Nowdays, the technology has advanced. It was difficult to produce 'white' light emitting diodes but that has now been achieved.

The ones off ebay aren't 'E' marked so i don't think they are legal..... not that i'm bothered. :P

No need to. If you use a long bladed screwdriver, there is no need to try and 'reach' the fitting. Careful when you prise it out. The bulb holder is plastic and has several 'barbs' to hold it into the lens. Carefully does it. :)

I did use a long srewdriver and it was still difficult, plus you have to get you hand in there to put it back. :P

 They look great, I have standard lights (octy II), what would be the best way to upgrade them from candle light yellow, are Zenons just the bulbs or is there a whole different unit? I want it to look like yours

Right.. just had ago at changing these... started with the drivers side.. and without removing the whole headlight there is no way i'm going to be able to swap these bulbs over... the cable going to the xenon bulbs leaves me with very little room to work in.. the clear plastic cover (which has no self tappers in on the drivers side) has a wire hook at the bottom which once removed gave me and extra 0.5cm of movement on the cover.. bringing the total gap i can get to a massive... 3cm...

Just enough to get my fingers in and touch the bulb holder... tried getting it off with a long screw driver as suggested but it didn't budge... because of this i haven't even attempted the other side!

There's another clip on the xenon wire just after the ballast under the slam panel, i undid that which gave more slack. ;)

Thanks Neily I'll give that a go :)

Its a black plastic one which can be carefully prised open (sorta hooks into itself) with a flat screwdriver.

DID YOU FOLLOW MY GUIDE?

A Rough Guide 'How to'

Near Side (Driver's)

If you look at the back of the headlights there is a clear plastic cover. Remove the two self tapping screws and the cover can then be unclipped and pushed forward (It wont come off) Then using a long flat bladed screwdiver, carefully prise the bulb holder from the headlight . You can just get your hand in to pull it off once its loose. Lift it out, pull out the bulb and replace with the new one. Simply push the holder back in the hole

The other side (Off side)

This is more difficult: On top of the ballast box is the power supply plug. Unplug this. Then undo the two self tappers and the ballast box can now be lifted out to one side With its cage. The battery box cover and front are now unclipped and the back of the headlight cover unclipped and pushed forward. Same procedure as for the drivers side and youre done. Put it all back together and there you go

There are no self tapping screws on the drivers side and the xenon pwer cable needs a couple of clips taking off to give enough slack to even move the cover of the rear of the light. ;)

Yes Chris I'd printed it off so I could follow it to the letter :)

I'm going to give it another go when the rain stops... which was another reason I gave up earlier :thumbdwn:

Mine did have screws and I didnt have to remove any clips

I think that there is a few different types of unit. When mine were checked by a VW dealership, the technician asked me if they were retro fitted as he'd never seen them. Mine have the self tappers as well on the top of the casing.
