LED Sidelights fitted (With Xenons)

Featured Replies

LED lights have a faster response time reducing the time taken for the lights to activate thus giving the person behind you more of a chance to stop, studies have shown it can results in an extra 10 metres for braking. Most of the car makers offer them as an option on their exec models.

They also have a much lower power consumption resulting in less load for the electrical system and hence better fuel economy (granted not a huge difference) and they also have a much longer life than regular bulbs.Oh and lastly they are brighter than standard bulbs!

Oh and they look great on the car!

I'll agree to the fact they look great on the car. They are also a cluster of little lights consuming about 5W of power per bulb and in dim mode would last upto 100,000 hours. However, about the response thing...that's nonsense. With the way you've described people behind receiving a visual signal 10 meters ahead of braking, you make it seem like you switch on the side lights with conventional bulbs and they take about 1 second to go on...that's nonsense. The response time of LEDs is extremely minutely faster than a conventional bulb. 10 meters headroom??? That's like the bulb going on before you even hit the switch.

LEDs are a gimmick. They look great, no doubt, and are the way to the future as far as lighting is concerned, but for today, it's a gimmick. They're expensive too, but they last a helluva lot longer and in the pro industry, you can also have them change colours.

Stick in a DMX controller into your car and you could select a different colour everyday to use :D

 Aaaaggggghhhhhhh!!!!!

My LEDs have packed up. Lasted less than 3000 mile(about 2000 with lights on).

I was going to complain to seller on E-bay but he has a small disclaimer saying bulbs aren't guaranteed if fitted in same housing as headlight bulb.(get too hot!)

Won't be bothering again.

Mine are still going strong... I've just replaced the map reading lights with LEDs.. much brighter now :)

Here is a pic with eBay'd white LEDs. I fiddled with the white balance a bit and reckon the colour is pretty close to reality here.

Which bulbs did you use for the Map lights?

I fancy a fiddle with something...

I got some of these... clicky they're the same bulbs as the sidelamps.

They're much brighter than the stock bulbs so I've taken the middle festoon bulb out for the time being until I get round to ordering an LED replacement.
