LED Sidelights fitted (With Xenons)

I think that there is a few different types of unit. When mine were checked by a VW dealership, the technician asked me if they were retro fitted as he'd never seen them. Mine have the self tappers as well on the top of the casing.

Did I miss anything in my guide 'How to...' Jon?

Don't like the look of those.... they'll just shine a dot straight ahead and not in the reflector....

Do you know what light output they are? Cos if they are bright it wont matter if they dont light up the reflector. However.. IMO they will not be very good and are probably illegal if that matters to you??

That's what I thought.

However, they are xenon white wide angle high power LED's.

If it's not raining tomorrow, I should have them fitted & I'll try to get somepics posted.

There are two bulbs in the main beam area - the main bulbs in the centre of the reflector are the 55w main beam bulbs. The sidelights are small 5w bulbs in the side of the casing.

LED sidelights can look very nice, but in my experience they don't last too long and aren't bright enough. I often work with the police and their line is as long as they're 'white' not blue then they're fine on the legal side of things. :)

Blue is also legal as long as it doesn't flash. ;)

Pretty certain it's not. I've asked two policemen I know (both traffic cops) and they state that the light should be nothing other than white. Xenons are tolerated within a certain degree but anything radically coloured can be considered illegal (eg retrofit bulbs that are deep blue / purple). To be honest, I did ask them this question about 6 months ago so if the law has changed since then . . .

To answer that:

1. Agreed. They look great!

2.. Only time will tell how long they'll last. They're cheap enough to replace anyway

3. Not true AT ALL!! Mine are MUCH brighter than the original sidelight bulb

I've had my current LEDs in for a year now with no problems.

I didn't say that very clearly, they're less visible IMO. They project a narrow beam of light and don't reflect around the reflectors, so they are a point light source which is less visible. But, if you're happy with them, each to his or her own. :)

Wrong again Yash. LOOK:

Well, as I said, each to his own. Without one LED and one normal bulb next to each other in the same photo it's hard to judge. Looking at that from a photographer's point of view, I'd say that photo was taken around about dusk time, so the lights have overexposed rather a lot. Anyway, as I said, if you're happy with them then that's all that matters. :)
