Octy 4*4

Featured Replies

Hi Guys,

Can you please tell me if the 1.8T 4*4 has the same engine as the vrs but just tuned down?

If it is the same can it be chipped upto 230 bhp?

Any other major differences between the 4*4 and the vrs?

Thanks

Matt

engine is pretty much the same and capable of the same power.

gearbox has shorter gearing

taller softer suspension

vrs has fake half leather

4x4 has sunroof as standard

4x4 has esp as standard

vrs has bigger brakes as standard

4x4 has centre arm rest as standard

4x4 has headlight washers, not sure about vrs

4x4 has proper indepandant rear suspension rather than with a beam like the vrs

thats what i can think of off the top of my head :)

vrs only had headlight washers if you had factory Xenons

230bhp from just a remap/chip is a bit optimistic too - expect a little less than 220bhp (this is the same for all K03 1.8T VAG cars)

:iagree:

So would you go for the 4*4 over the vrs and chip it then?

If so anyone got one for sale?

I assume the vrs alloys will just pop onto the 4*4.

I would go for the 4x4 if I wanted to modify the car as it has a greater ability to put the power down.

You can always add VRS or Golf GTi/R32/Audi S3 seats later. Budget £300+ to sort the suspension though.

Bengie, EddyH and WayneKerr all have nice 4x4's but I dont they're for sale. try Autotrader.

ask all the big power vRS boys how they manage to put 400bhp down :)

then we will hear from eddy how his does putting possibly 500bhp down :D

Putting the current 400ish down no problem at all. It's currently with JBS to up the power some more. :D

As far as vRS v's 4x4 it depends what you want and how much you want to spend. Having owned a 4x4 for a while I wouldn't personally buy a vRS, however if you want to keep mods to a minimum then the vRS is an attractive prospect as it has better styling, better handling, better brakes, bigger wheels, bigger brakes, etc..

Dave that is very nice indeed!!!

i wanted them wheels and very nearly got them too. the set of 18's i was going to buy got sold about 2 hours before i got to the guy with a deposite :(

I managed or rather Jabba managed 225 bhp out of mine with the initial map

Sort the suspension & brakes & you have a quick car thats a bit of a sleeper. After that the more you mod it the better it becomes. If you want a car to drive hard then the 4x4 is the way to go as it just puts the power down.

Oh and don't forget that 4x4's are people who can't drive. :sofahide:

4x4's rule

Wandered around the motorshow on Thurs looking at the nice shiney metal work. Imagining a realistic budget for a new car, there wasn't a single one which appeared to offer what my 4x4 estate does e.g. reasonable interior, plenty of boot space, reasonably quick, good reliability etc etc. The nearest would probably be a Focus ST (not a great dash, a smaller car and no doubt torque steer) or Leon Cupra (same as the Focus apart from an truely awful dash!) It made me wonder whether a JBS KO4 or IHI was the way to go!! And as an aside,

go for the 4x4,ive had mine for almost 2 years now and its a great car stock and even better modified
