Bolero radio code

Featured Replies

After my recent battery problems I read up on how to change a battery without losing power to the radio but things can go wrong so I was wondering what my code was. I couldn't find anything in the paperwork from the dealer who sold me the car new but is no longer in business. Googling didn't give anything other than there "might be a sticker in the glove box (there isn't) or to remove the radio to get the serial number and then use this to get the code from a dealer or one of the sites on eBay, provided you can find a reliable one. Has anyone found a way to extract the code from a working radio without removing it? I know it's only removing the trim and four bolts but come on Skoda, that's not Simply Clever it's just irritating.

I did find this on a thread from 2019 which I'm reproducing (acknowledgements to pikpilot) as it may be helpful to someone in the future.

"If the radio remembers it was switched on last time it was used, when you put the battery back on it will ask for the code. If you then switch the radio off and then the ignition off then ignition on then radio on it will start up without asking for a code.

Waiting for one hour causes the radio to go off again so next time you apply power via the ignition it will go through the process of the code checking handshake with the display system correctly and the radio will work when it switched on".

The thread is https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/426867-bolero-radio-code/

My understanding is that there is no code for the user to input - the MIB infotainment system is protection coded to the vehicle using non-volatile memory.

The only thing that may be lost when disconnecting the battery is radio station pre-sets.

Pre Facelift have 4 Pin Code. Safed in the Cluster. Change Radio, you need Pin from New Radio. Ist no mib Device

Facelift have CP and called mib PQ

But OP was asking if code required for infotainment when disconnecting battery to change it - not about replacing radio.

In Bad Situation, yes.

Normaly not

Thanks guys. Comforting to know that in most cases it will just look after itself. But in the worst case it's not a big problem to pull out the radio and get the serial number.

Paul, read your car's 'Owner's Manual' for info of battery disconnection/reconnection and what possibly needs resetting. Generally in reality its the time of day clock (instructions for resetting this are you know where). You will also loose (back to zeros) the trip (mileage) recordings, I've no idea about MPG stuff as I rarely look at such things.

Before disconnecting the battery just have all your electric windows (and sunroof) fully shut and all electric items switched off.

If you don't have the very useful, and should have been read by now, paper printed copy of the car's 'Owner's Manual' then you can get a free pdf download from the VWŠkoda manuals site. - https://www.skoda-auto.com/apps/manuals/Models

The 'Owner's Manual' gives lots of useful info that can save you time, money and hassle of visits to garages. mechanics and auto-electricians - but here's the kicker, you do have to actually read it and refer to it as required. True, some bits do seem to have been written by a German engineering student in German then translated to Chinese to be translated from Chinese to English but generally still very informative. Very often beats relying on the internet and the very hit 'n' miss misnomer "AI".

If you actually read the car's 'Owner's Manual' you will know more about the car than many long term owners.
