Diagnostic mystery

Featured Replies

Hi all,

My Octavia MK3 TDI vRS is going for diagnostics tomorrow but I'm curious what people here think the issue(s) could be.

DPF related figures (same from both ODBEleven and VAG DPF):

Distance since last regeneration > 33k km

Time since last regeneration > 37 days

Soot calculated+measured constant negative value of -15.46

Oil ash residue constant 126.8g - above max of 80g

DPF Gas Input / Output temps always 0C

Low pressure EGR closing always 0%

Differential pressure All over the place from -20 to 200+ (with no change in engine state)

Faults - static:

Dashboard Control module incorrectly coded (U101400)

Central Electrics Right turn signal light bulb - open circuit/short circuit to B+ (B12D115) but indicators work properly!

Air conditioning Refrigerant pressure - lower limit not reached (B10ABFO) due to sensor or does it need re-gassing?

Faults - intermittent:

Engine Charge Air Cooler Temperature Sensor Circuit High - Bank 2 (P00A300)

Central Electrics License plate lamp  - Electrical malfunction (B12CA01) Usually occurs together with side light error

Central Electrics Right front side light (code?) Usually occurs together with license plate lamp error

Transmission Stuck in gear 1 (P072C00)

Transmission Stuck in gear 2 (P072D00)

Transmission Stuck in gear 3 (P072E00)

Transmission Stuck in gear 4 (P072F00)

Transmission Stuck in gear 5 (P073A00)

Transmission Stuck in gear 6 (P073B00)

Transmission Stuck in reverse (P072B0O)

Transmission Valve 3 in partial transmission 1 - Electrical malfunction (P174A00)

Transmission Valve 3 in partial transmission 2 - Electrical malfunction (P174E00)

Transmission Pressure Contr.Solenoid C - Stuck on (P079700)

Transmission Cooling oil valve  - Electrical malfunction (P179D00)

Transmission Starter enable from selector lever sensor (P173400)

Transmission Engine Speed Inp.Circ. (P072600)

Air conditioning High-pressure sensor - no signal (B10AE31) Probably caused by me unplugging sensor

Other notes:

Hum from passenger side when accelerator pressed (just started happening very recently)

Headlights sometimes seem to dim when screen wash used (electrical issue or illusion caused by headlight washer?)

Smell of diesel + difficult start with excessive smoke if ignition left on for a while before starting engine

Electrical issues related to corrosion around rear-right numberplate light or perhaps battery/engine ground?

Degraded battery or poor terminal connection

Id sort that before doing the diagnostic work

Might clear alot of the faults

Thanks for input.

I initially thought a battery issue because it had an underrated battery in it. It now has a brand new Varta AGM battery and connections have been checked.

I had the car checked out and a lot of problems were found, including deleted EGR, probably gutted DPF, both coded out of the ECU and a whole host of other issues.

Mystery over, I was sold a dodgy car.

@davegr Difficult for Dealers / Traders to know often what they bought in or were traded in. As it is for the MOT,er. How recent was it MOT,d before you bought it?

This dealers own mechanic just replaced the turbo on it. Considering how closely related the turbo/EGR/DPF are, I can say they knew for certain.

It was MOTd in October but obviously, all sorts of tricks can help a car pass the MOT, eg temporarily connect a non functional EGR.

As i posted in the Yeti thread, members on here have done the same to their vehicles and they might well then trade in or sell them. PS, most common MOT cheat, test a totally different vehicle for emissions. Hence Web Cams coming in eventually for every test station. Probably watched by AI...

Good, as far as I'm concerned. This is the second time I've been sold a car with major issues and I'm highly suspicious of the MOT pass on both.
