Side lights(Parking lights)

Featured Replies

Hi all,

Today i failed mot because all of a sudden front both parking sides aren’t working, replaced them with brand new one tonight w5w 12, still nothing, rear are working fine, checked the fuse (N23) works no issues at all, what could be the problem? Also checked inside the bulbs for the tiny wire , it’s fully intact on both old and new bulbs. Skoda fabia estate vrs 60 plate. Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

In my fuse diagram side lights left is fuse 17 and right 18. The left side light fuse also supplies the number plate light.

The side lights in the headlights on the fab Rs don't work as DRL are the side lights they dim when you turn on the side lights

If you mean from the cluster 1st position yes it’s turned on but still no lights

Have you checked with a multimeter if you have power in the socket of the parking light?

I just found this connecter unplugged and seems i can’t find where it plugs aswell

A 3 pin con e oro like that could be for the drl

Do you have vcds? In case you can do an auto scan and see what is not communicating

How to find out where it plugs

First of all, does the two drls work when you switch the ignition on?

1st position only lights that work are the rear back lights on the tail, nothing else, on second position on the front working only circle lights with the liquid like inside

But on the 0 position does the lower lamps the circular one (in the place of the fog lights) turns on? Like in pictures

Just to start to sorting out the unplugged connector

Nope, nothing

The Blue bulbs in the Headlights are dummy bulbs. For 13 years some muppet MOT testers fail vRS on no sidelights and have no idea the DRL,s are Sidelight & Parking lights but dimmer. 3 threads on Police muppets thinking Front Fog lights on when DRL,s and Skoda Salerspeople arguing there are Front Fog lights and Skoda said there were in Brochures so Adverts in Autotrader repeat that.

The DRLS do not need to work because cars Type Approved before mandatory. But sidelights should come on as Sidelights, with headlights. Also if you use Parking Lights. Ignition off, indicator stalk down. One Front Sidelight / Position Light on, and one rear, also 1 registration bulb with a vRS.

PS. Was it 2012 no longer the DRL on / off rocker switch in beside the fuses? At services or maintenance / software updates most techs turned off the DRL,s at the switch.

As far as I know non it the vrs or the late 2014 with the same style bumper

If you are referring to me, I’m sorry but I don’t really know about uk law because I don’t live there, I was trying to sort the loose plug first and then suggesting to maybe test if there is 12v in the socket?

I am referring to anyone interested. The Linked threads & 'quest' are my posts over the years. The DRL on switch was deleted before 2014 when they stopped building Mk2 vRS Fabia.

@MBane I see you have a 2010 vRS. There were a few of us had the first 50 in the UK, demonstrators and Media cars. I had 6 vRS that i dealt in, they were high oil rejects of crash damaged and 2 personal were Red & from Skoda UK,s cars. ? Can you give part of the reg number please? Just nose as what car you have. What colour is it?

'Or crash damaged' sorry can not edit just now.

Thanks all for the help, the loose wiring was indeed for the dlr on the bumper, but took me like 30min to explain it to the mot guy who had hard time believing that the fog light were indeed the dlr, and the small bulbs inside the headlights should work also.

'The small bulbs in headlights should NOT work also. DRL,s are also Side lights but less bright when so, or when a Parking light.

Yes but I had hard time explaining this to the mot guy, as he was saying if he calls dvsa for advice their reply would’ve been “if it’s there it should work”

Try to remove the plastic grill (there should be an hook in the spare tyre kit to remove it) and remove the bolts holding the drl, remove the drl and see if the connector behind it is plugged

From this thread https://www.briskoda.net/forums/topic/500244-fabia-vrs-mk2-sidelight-drl-bulb-replacement/

Look at the wire in your picture and the one plugged behind the drl they look the same

Thanks Jack, that was the pin for, all working now, except very low light on passenger side, cleaned the pins as they were corroded a bit but still flickering, probably will need new one
