How many km is too many?

Featured Replies

My lovely 2012 Diesel Superb has just passed 176,000km and is coming up on another timing belt/water pump replacement (I think? Last was done at 90,000). There's also some suspension parts that need replacing due to the age of the car.

I'm wondering how many more km I could expect to see out of my car, to help me decide at what point the cost of the repairs are no longer worth it.

I've had a search but I'm obviously not picking the right search terms, because I wasn't able to find the info.

I'm the second owner and the car has been regularly serviced the entire time. It's done some decent highway miles, but does a fair chunk of city too. I'd like to think I'm not thrashing the engine.

So, to any other diesel 2012 owners out there, how many kms have you got out of yours? Will 200 be it, or could I get to 300? I realise this question is a bit like asking how long a piece of string is, but figured I'd ask for some ideas.

I have soon 450tkm and running strong. Only body rust is top off skirts near rear wheels. Skirt and bottom of car not bad.

Now seems that rear bushings etc are little bit worn but cheap to fix.

And dpf is original too. If i choose i rather take high km than low. Long distance driving is good for diesel and many repairs are made before you buy car. Example turbo or dual mass. (About 350k done for my car). It had 405k when i bought.

Thanks both! Seems there's a chance my car has a fair bit more life left in it. I live in a cold region, but not quite to the same extent as the Nordic region.

I will proceed with the maintenance with this in mind, hoping to keep the car for many more years!

Double post by mistake.

Fantastic effort gents. Half a million kms coming on…👌👍

Mines a petrol 3.6 but has 310,000kms on it. I had a replacement chain issue under warranty early on at 90,000 (a pulley bearing failed) but otherwise just regular maintenance.

Underside bits need replacing as it lived in Switzerland for ten years of its life and although no salt as such, the chemicals do their thing on the exposed metal bits. Replace as I go. Just had new suspension coils. Still runs brilliantly.

my diesel superb also a 2012 has done 188000 miles over 300000 kms its due a belt next year which i will change myself . this car runs fine and always starts so why change it. when it starts costing me money i will scrap it.
