Insane Automatic brake when reversing

Featured Replies

The automatic brake “safety” system on my 2024 Kodiaq is insane. It slams on for the slightest thing when reversing, thinking things like kerbs or people nowhere close to danger present an imminent emergency. There’s no warning and the severity of the brake almost gave my wife whiplash and my elderly mother almost had a heart attack. This happens regularly. I can find the option to disable the front emergency brake but not the rear. Is there a way to disable the system? I’m already looking at other car alternatives because it’s so annoying.

Try disabling the parking sensors after you put the car in reverse! I haven't tried it but I think it works! I'll do a test when I get to the car!

I have to disable it every time I start the car. It’s under parking settings called “maneuver braking” or something. I’m not sure if it’s enough to mute the sensors. It’s a really terrible “feature”, way too sensitive to react, and way too aggressive on the brake. Sometimes it detects people on the parking lot who are obviously not in my path and slams the brakes. Other-times it troggers when I’m passing cars on a narrow street.

This sounds very strange to me, and I have all the safety features on.

I would suggest you disable the auto hold (if you have it on) and manoeuver very gently when parking.

Saying this as in both cars I own (Skoda and Mazda), when fast manouvering they slammed on the brakes.

Can I assume that your car is either an iV or PHEV ?

Took me over a year but I finally found an answer for this in my 24 Superb. There's a settings menu that only appears when the car is in reverse, there's two settings in there, something like: emergency braking, rear traffic assist. Bizarrely disabling emergency braking didn't help, but turning off rear traffic assist sorted it completely. And best of all you only have to do it once, it doesn't reset every time you start the car.

I stopped mine slamming on as i reversed through my gates by doing it slower. Sensors still scream that it's too close.
