Skoda Karoq 1.0Tsi 2018

Featured Replies

Does a Skoda Karoq 1.0Tsi 2018 need the timing belt changed? My car has 37000 miles. If so, should I change the water pump ( not sure if the timing belt runs the water pump) and tensioner?

The water pump is not required to be changed at the time of the Cam belt. As of 2023 Skoda / VW stopped showing or advising, recommending or scheduling the Cam Belt replacement at 5 years / 50,000 miles. They made it an After many miles or years thing. So many many threads on the subject in the near 3 years since things changed. Should you change it is totally up to you since 8 years old. But first you maybe want to check how much that is going to cost you...

Many thanks. I intend to keep the car for as long as possible. Despite Skoda claiming that the timing belt is a lifetime timing belt, this is misleading as inevitably, the rubber will perish. So time to change it.

The belt is a lifetime item. Not your lifetime. If it snaps it,s life is ended, maybe the engines as well. But the tensioners are rather important..... Which Dealership or was it Skoda UK or CZ, or customers services that said the cam belt is a 'Lifetime one.? Because that is not as their releases. The 5 year / 50,000 miles was only the UK which was a Money Maker for Dealers. the UK is not a Dust Rich country. The problem 2023 was the £750-£1,200 to do a 1.5 TSI and owners not doing it and trading ion cars & dealers did not want to do it to sell with FMDSH yet not serviced to schedule or recommendations.

Thank you for contacting Škoda UK regarding your vehicle service interval. I sincerely apologise for the delay in my response.

I have referred your service interval and timing belt enquiry to our internal Technical Support Team, who has advised that your Škoda Karoq timing belt does not have an interval as the vehicle is fitted with a life time component. In regards to the service interval of your Škoda Karoq, your vehicle is on a flexible schedule, which means that your Škoda Karoq dashboard will alert you when a service is due.

I hope this information proves useful.

Should you need further assistance, please do not hesitate to contact us on the details below.

You may receive a survey about the service that I have provided. I would be grateful if you have the time to complete this, as it will help me to provide the best customer experience possible.

Kind regards

Thanks for the information. I'm going to get the timing belt changed in any case. It would be extremely unwise not to.

A dealer tech on one of the FB groups has the opinion that meddling with the setup is potentially more damaging than leaving it alone. Of course if it's done completely by the book with the correct parts & tools, that shouldn't be the case, but...

He also reckons he's never seen an instance of a petrol Karoq with a snapped belt.

The 1.0 TSI is simple with a Simple locking tool. Plenty have been messed up by people without a clue or the tool. Which is not more than a few quid, unlike that for doing a 1.5 TSI ACT. PS. Euro 6 1.0TSI,s with a GPF are only 9 years old now.

Had mine done at 5 years, think it was around 650 at a dealer. The water pump is at the other end, just had that replaced due to a leak. A common problem I gather, the VW independent I used has done quite a few, mine was 7 years old but they're doing them on 4 year old cars.

Many thanks.

The original advice from Skoda UK was 5 years which was totally different to the whole of the rest of the VAG "empire", so Skoda UK have no revised their advice to be in line with the rest.

IIRC it's start to inspect at 120,000 miles and change when necessary.

@Evolution13 posted the shcedule ealier in thread. There's no inspection noted or, indeed, any change interval.
