MIB3 Amundsen (MOI) - maps are not updating

Featured Replies

Hello guys!

I came here as I am trying to solve an issue with my Kodiaq's Amundsen MIB3 map updates.

Essential information: this is Kodiaq I FL (MY2024), equipped with MIB3 Preh unit (Amundsen). Currently equipped with firmware 0332, but on the 0330 there was exactly the same issue.

The thing is, there is no working way currently to get maps updated.

I have purchased online subscription constantly since I have this car (more than 2 yrs now). It was working OK until I obtained 24.8 maps. I tried to update the maps for at least a year now.

This does not seem to be an issue with communications module, as I get live traffic updates and road closures. Moreover, I receive some apps updates (shop app etc.) OTA without any issue.
What I tried to do:

  • connect car to home Wifi

  • leave it alone to get the updates OTA

  • use an USB-C drive which was formatted to FAT32, Ex-FAT (currently) and NTFS: tried last year's maps (25.x) and this year's maps (26.2), tried different sources (Skoda update portal, direct links etc.)

In short: nothing works.

Workshop told me they saw no issues in late 2025, advised to wait until 2026 maps are released, but nothing changed.

Do you guys have any ideas on what to do/check here?
I see a correlation when the URL have been changed from old Skoda servers (https://infotainment-cdn.skoda-auto.com) to Azure location (https://updateportalmaps.blob.core.windows.net) - is there a way to verify if that can be a cause?

Have you tried MartiniB's manual update to atleast would give you newer maps. I have read posts where people find their map updates get stuck. Think@MartiniB was one of them, plus another. Think the solution for them was to go back to an older update to the maps then forward. It's in these threads in this area somewhere. I seem to recall we put it down to going back to the original fixed it. Like some corruption. That's if you can find the old file or may be giving it the latest release will nudge it. Who knows.

Hi @Tell , thank you for the heads up.

I am not sure which specific thread you referred to, but I will try to dig for it a bit.

I was wondering if trying to "update" my nav to 23.12 or 24.6 will help, AFAIR this was the path.

Do you know if I can find link to 23.12 maps for MOI (P119 probably)? I tried to google it, but found nothing older than 24.6.

Update to the above: I found 23.12 maps from Volkswagen (https://navigation-maps.volkswagen.com/vw-maps/EUR_12PR119_FCT3WS-23131_Offline_Update.tar) and I will try now to unzip it on a flash drive. In case it suceeds, I will take the newest 26.2 again. I hope this will help in my case.

Yes the discussion on the issues was on one of @MartiniB posts on one of the six monthly releases he'd put up. He had been stuck on not being able to update for a while it turned out. 18 months or two years ago. He might pop up soon. One other guy similar.

Best to ask @MartiniB if you cant get it sorted. It was posted up. The OTAs stopped working one other had the same and they got it freeded up via an old map file. Thats how I remember it. I can't lay my hands on that conversation.

OK, so I have tried with 23.12 (which is 2 versions back from 24.8 which I am currently on) on the USB stick - no go.

Nothing have changed despite driving for more than 1 hour in total.

I decided to move in a bit different way. I saw indeed in the previous year's discussion that one of the guys installed 24.12 (found on Seat website), which was successful.
Now we're driving with the stick equipped with 24.12 maps, during the upcoming long weekend we will be driving for more than 2 hours (there and back will sum up to more than 4). Let's see if this helps, if not - I'll dig deeper again.

In case there are any other ideas, please let me know, as I am more and more annoyed by this issue... It should not work like this.
Luckily I'm an IT guy, so I understand roughly how it works and what can go wrong.

@pawelklr

have you tried activate online multimedia service?

last maps over OTA, mine Mk3.FL 2023 got on free 3 months demo period

for online remote access i pay,

but can't see reasons to pay for online multimedia

  • Author

@MartiniB yes, I have both online services purchased and active (Infotainment online and Remote access). I keep both of them since Feb 2024, when I bought my Kodiaq.

I tried to find your way to fix the problem appeared in your car, but I tried to read all the related threads and could not find anything unfortunately :(

There is something somewhere when it came up previously but I haven't been able to find it.

Right it's this one I'm thinking of... corrected another Google with keywords in it:

& here... where it concludes

On that I think what it is saying find the corresponding map update for offline use to the one that is currently installed. Install via USB and that cleared the bug. Least I think that is what is going on.

OK, so I did exactly the same actions as described in the linked discussion in 2025 maps thread.

I have reapplied 0332 software, the post-installation scripts have been applied and radio DB was reverted to 1.3x.44 (had .62 before). I downloaded 24.12 maps to the USB stick, total driving time is now about 2 hours since I did it.
Guess what - still nothing.

I believe that something is blocking only the maps update, as all other online features are performing OK - I see heavy traffic areas, road works and closures without any issues. The only thing that does not want to work is the maps update - still I am on 24.8.

I will leave the stick for at least a month to ensure it is not just a sluggish update process.

In case anybody have some further ideas, please let me know.

I think I have been trying exactly this file but I will give it a try once again soon. Now I’m driving still with 24.12 on the stick.

  • 3 weeks later...

A quick update: nothing changed. I was trying 24.12 on the stick, then changed to 26.2. I have been driving for more than 5 hours in total but the map version still shows 24.8… :(

it shouldn't take that long. Two theories corrupted file in the system or issues with the firmware.

The filesystem on the usb stick is for sure not affected.

Most likely something blocks the update on the MIB3 unit side.

I will report this issue to my workshop as the car is still on warranty period. I just wondered if there is any harmless unofficial method to push this somehow.

Is the factory reset for infotainment feasible here?

I don't think there is anything harmless with these units if you fiddle with the firmware since unlike mib2 they have done a good job of closing down the backend. Dealers and retrofitters have to use approved handshaking vag tools. Apart from disconnecting and reconnecting the battery. Firmware updates you do yourself can be dangerous as those mib2 standard ones.

Under warranty leave it to the dealer.
