locking system Octavia mark 4

Featured Replies

hi,

yesterday I accidentally left my key in the boot of the car (it was in my coat). I was in a secure car park so never thought to lock it.

I returned to the car about one hour later and found it locked. I had to go home and get the spare key which was dead. I used the secret hole to open the passenger door and climbed into the boot. used the fob to tun off the alarm and drove away.

Today in the same car park i have walked away from the car, leaving it unlocked on purpose to se what happens.

The car remains unlocked several hours later!?

The key was on a pouch to stop transmitting and also tested out of the pouch.

Why did it lock yesterday when the key was in the boot ? and would it have locked if the key was left on the drivers seat ?

Also I tested the dead key against the stop/start button and the plastic area on the steering wheel and it didn't charge it enough to start the car.

Can't answer your question but I can confirm a very similar thing happened to me. I used to leave my key in my work jacket, which I'd put in the car as I walked past before heading in for debrief / wash etc. But then one day when I went to my car afterwards it had locked itself, and I had to go home and get my other key.

I replaced the batteries in both of my keys afterwards, and it hasn't happened since. Mind, I've never left one unattended in my car since either... 😆

The manual states that the in-car receiver for the key is underneath the front cup holder and a key with a low battery should be placed there to start the engine.
