SE L 1.5 DSG - Rear Brake Caliper Piston Rewind Tool

Featured Replies

Hi

I have a 2021 Kamiq and the MOT has advisory note that the rear pads are 70% down.

It has a manual handbrake and before deciding to do the work myself I have the following questions:

  1. Do i need a rewind tool to compress the pistons?

  2. Would the following tool be suitable (Screwfix:

Hilka Pro-Craft Brake Caliper Rewind Tool (4119R)?

  3. Some information states pistons can have left and right hand threads, are Skoda pistons normal RH threads?

Thanks for any information/advice before deciding!

I'd be willing to guess that the rear brake calliper is now a Mando product which should be a copy of the old Girling>Lucas>? calliper, so it will be Right Handed threads for retracting the piston, so that tool should work.

I'm sure that you will return to let us know if that is true.

The 2019 workshop manual refers to a special VW tool - T10165 - which just winds the piston back in. The Hilka tool looks as if it does the same job.

Thanks for the replies, I need to firt check the wear is actually 70%! and make the decision when or if I need to do it.

I will then get back to confirm the tool that worked!
