Faded Black Trim

Featured Replies

Hi,

I have recently washed my 2014 Octavia VRS and the black plastic trims on the doors have faded and gone chalkboard like. Is there anyway to get them to go back to how they were all glossy or would they need replacing?

If so, where could I find online for genuine ones.

Many Thanks,

What did you wash it with to get it like that? Looks like something very abrasive wa used

Some say an orbital polisher with appropriate compound. Others buy a stick on overlay from Temu/Ali_exp type places. Have a search. Not done either myself

My first time giving advice on this awsome site. My recently purchased white Vrs estate was let down by the very same discoloured panels. Searched around and saw this YouTube video. I followed the instructions and the result was amazing.

I hope i have done this correctly.

I used the wash bay at my work and it must of been a very strong TFR that was in the barrel. All I did was spray it on and rinse it off. Lesson learnt about TFR 🤦🏻‍♂️😂

I used some Jif, or Cif as they now call it.

I also used it on the rubbers around the rear side windows (estate).

Worked a treat.

Never use TFR unless it is actually needed on the back of a lorry. You can, will and have burned the clear coat with it. You will be able to sort it with a mini DA or, at a push, by hand - but I expect it will need quite a substantial cut. It also looks to have dried a bit on the rubber window seals/trim. Cirtus prewash is a much safer alternative.

Not the right stuff. This video was on rough, textured plastic. The Mk3 Octavia has gloss black pillar trims - the only fix is to polish them.

I polished mine, and then ceramic coated them. Sorted.

What shall I use for the rubbers? I noticed that they seem to be eating away.
