New MQB style key problems

Featured Replies

Hi all, just purchased a 2016 Fabia 1.2tsi but just has 1 key, had a locksmith out for a new key but he couldn't get his fobs to work so ordered a different type and came back for another try, the new key remote now opens and unlocks the car but it won't start unless the key is held right up against the start button as if the fob battery is flat, contacted the locksmith and he's now ordering another type of fob, anyone else ever had a problem like this with new keys, thanks.

If it's just a flat fob battery, have you tried a new battery? Ought not to be flat, but I can imagine replacement fobs sitting on a shelf for a fair while.

Battery is new, I reckon he's going to have to get a genuine fob rather than these aftermarket things

It might depend on the fob and/or the system he's using to prgram the fob but if he's been sucessful with other VW/VWŠkoda 2016 cars then more likily the fobs or he's not updated to the latest updates on his machine's system. But then I've seen on here even experts having issues and needing to send the cusomer to the Dealership. IIRC the Dealership (non-KESSY) remote folding-key fob for my wife's 2015 Fabia was £144 and £41 programming about a couple of years back. Personally as it was for my wife and her car I didn't trust or fart about with variable quailty keysmiths but I'm sure many are very good
