New Elroq - Just arrived at Dealers! Tips?

Featured Replies

Hi folks,

Had a call from my local dealer yesterday to confirm that my new Elroq has arrived (ordered start of February), and it’s due for collection on Thursday. Really looking forward to it! It’ll be my first EV, and I’m coming from a 66‑plate Skoda Superb L&K 2.0 TDI with just over 141,000 miles on it. I've had it almost 10 years, love it.

I’ve already had a Hypervolt 3 charger installed, so everything’s ready to go. Pretty buzzing!

For those who already own an Elroq: Do you have any advice for a first‑time EV owner? Anything I should check, set up, or be aware of when I pick it up (other than just enjoying it 😄)?

I’ve got a feeling the standard tyres might not be the best—bit disappointing from Skoda on a car at this price point—but I’m not quite ready to drop nearly £1k on a set of Continental all‑seasons just yet.

Car: Škoda Elroq SportLine 85 Added Equipment:

  • Graphite Grey Metallic

  • Front aluminium door‑sill covers

  • Front & rear mud flaps

  • Foldable tow bar

  • Winter Package

  • Maxx Package

  • Heat pump

  • Driver Package

  • 5‑year / 100,000‑mile extended warranty

Our 85 edition, is our second EV. First was a French tin box, and was great as an intro to EVs. OTOH it really made us appreciate it when we got our Skoda late last year. For us, it has just worked fine since the day we got it. Tyres: not sure what you have, but we have no problems with the 19" ones from the factory. Being RWD poor tyres could cause squeaky bum but never have. The Michelins on our tin box were way worse, and were actually improved massively going to Goodyear 4 season (after a puncture wrecked a Michelin).

Enjoy. Check tyre pressures and set as for your use and reset the TPMS. Be sure the Wheel bolt secure socket is there.

Request clear confirmation that suspension transit blocks have been removed during PDI.

As already mentioned, check your tyre pressures when you get home.

Before you leave the dealership, check for any damage to bodywork or interior trim. Take someone with you that can go over the car whilst you're doing the paperwork. The excitement of collecting a new car can give you rose tinted glasses so let someone else check it. Also be sure to check under the car as well especially side sills (rocker panels) for damage.

Best to take a Tyre Pressure Gauge and check pressures before leaving with a new car. If they are left at the 'In Transit' pressures, for being strapped down you get the sales person to get the dealership principal and the Master Tech and they can do another PDI while you fill out a 'Customer Survey'.

Just enjoy it. I did check my tyre pressures when I collected it, they were spot on. I bought a superb from the dealer before and the car prep was exemplary. They're a lovely car I love driving it.

It's nice to come across someone who's ordered the foldable tow bar. I decided against it and then had it fitted aftermarket by our local Skoda Dealer and it cost just about double. I don't know what you'll be towing, but we have an Ifor Williams P8 unbraked trailer, which the car handles fine, but it does kill the range, even when it's empty.

But the cars great. Ours is an Edition 85, it's done 17000 miles and we love it.

I'm sure you'll enjoy yours, although I guess you'll miss the space of the Superb.

So, picked up the car today. Things noticed so far:

  1. The tyres are poor. Brand - Giti. On a £46k car? Unacceptable Skoda. Had noticable slippage driving home in the rain. So that really soured the whole experience.

  2. Software - quite responsive - but anything linked to online (so the online services etc) - just keeps spinning the whole 'Please wait' nonsense - even with full bars of 4G. We had the same on my wifes Octavia when we got it in 2020. Thought Skoda would have sorted it in almost 6 years, but obviously not. Shame.

  3. Car itself - so far so good. It's a really nice car. Will take a bit getting used to an EV, coming from a 2ltr diesel.

So overall, mixed start. The tyres have urked me no end. Especially as pricing up some decent ones is currently costing £800+.

Mine came with Hankook EV specific tyres, mine are 20" wheels definitely no sign of slippage in the wet. Were all the software updates done before the handover? My system worked perfectly from day one with all required updates being done in the dealership.

Yes, it has all the updates. Mines a Sportsline, so 20 inch wheels as well. Giving shouldn't be anywhere near the sportline trim. I was expecting Hancook or pirelli.

New tyres are Green Tyres and need Run / Driven in, as do the brakes, suspension etc etc. Many written off cars are new with less than 50 miles on them because people do not think of tyres and the release agent. As to GITI Tyres. If VW do a deal with GITI so be it, as many Big Name Brands from Germany or Europe are crap anyway and over priced if replacing like for like but supplied cheap to VW Group.

Giti is the trademark of GT Radial tyres as I understand it - Singapore based and manufactured but German / European design and tech. They supply OE to VAG and Stellantis. Mid range brand but usually with better than mid-range reviews.

Which version are they?

Yeah, I guess you will need to adapt to the extra torque from the EV. The biggest thing to adapt, is that people really don't expect a car to take off like an EV does, and have a habit of pulling out when you start to overtake, even if you indicate you are doing so.

They are GigiSynergy tyres. I guess I just expected better for such an expensive car. Seems a poor area to cheap out on to be honest.

Does anyone know what the peddles do on the steering wheel? I thought they adjusted brake regen, but on my car, I haven't been able to get them to do anything. Regardless of drive mode etc. Unsure if I am doing something wrong.

Thanks

Looking forward to hearing how they are long term as far as grip and wear rate. Just watch for early wear of edges.

I've no idea what the paddles do either so I just leave them alone and just drive in 'B' for max regen.
